Arts Council launches Engaging with Architecture
The Arts Council and the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government have launched a new scheme with the purpose of engaging the public with architecture. The 'ngaging with Architecture Scheme was developed as a partnership initiative in response to both the Government Policy on Architecture 2009 - 2015 Towards a Sustainable Future: Delivering Quality within the Built Environment and the Arts Council's research into Public Engagement with Architecture (2009). Cork Harbour Open Day 2010

Arts Council Resources: Child Protection and Welfare in the Arts Sector
Child Protection and Welfare in the Arts Sector: two new resources published on the website.
The Arts Council has announced that two new resources are available on its website for arts organisations working with children and young people. Both resources have been designed as templates that can be adapted by arts organisations for their own use. Child Protection Policy and Procedures– Information for Children is designed as a leaflet that can be given to children and young people. It is intended to provide them with a brief guide to the measures that are in place in their arts organisation to ensure their safety and welfare. Information covered includes code of behaviour, making a complaint and how they can expect to be treated. Child Protection Policy and Procedures – Information for Parents/Guardians provides an outline for parents/guardians on the policies and procedures that are in place in an arts organisation attended by their child. It includes guidance on recruitment procedures, how the organisation will communicate with the parents in the event of a concern regarding their child and lists points on how parents can cooperate with them to ensure the safety and welfare of their child. National Campaign for the Arts
Actions and needs that were identified were identified at the recent meeting of the steering committee of the National Campaign for the Arts included the following: Volunteers are needed who are willing to speak to the press at short notice on the subject of the arts, funding economic importance etc.; The constituency groups started through Facebook last year need to be reactivated and grown;Artists and arts organisations need to actively engage in influencing the party manifestos of all parties in relation to the arts; Artists should ensure that they are registered to vote; Press releases containing good news stories from the arts should be submitted to the NCFA press officer; It was proposed that a single day of action whereby arts workers try to meet as many local and national public representatives as possible on the same day should be announced. These is also an open offer from the campaign steering committee for one of its members to come to Cork and talk with local arts workers about the ongoing campaign. An Lár TV: Call for Content
An Lár TV is a new Irish internet TV channel – www.anlar.tv. As the name suggests, An Lár TV is TV with an Irish Flavour. Their aim is to provide a platform for local Irish communities to share information and entertainment. An Lár TV’s ethos is one of inclusiveness, and is open to work with anyone who wishes to share a message. An Lár TV requires that content be suitable for a general audience and not contain any offensive material. Visual Artists Ireland Launches www.thecommonroom.net
Visual Artists Ireland (VAI) has launched a new social networking site for the visual arts – www.thecommonroom.net. Visual Artists Ireland has been helping professional visual artists since 1980 with an ever widening group of services. Following discussion and research, VAI wished to supply a further level of public service to the visual arts With forums, blogs, image & video galleries, special interest group creation, and links to other networking sites such as Twitter, thecommonroom.net provides a convenient one stop area for people working in the visual arts to keep in contact, as well as providing a free platform for presentation, discussion and group support. The Common Room Social Network for the Visual Arts (www.thecommonroom.net) is a project by Visual Artists Ireland. Visual Artists Ireland is the all Ireland body for professional visual artists. As a membership organisation, it provides services, facilities and resources for artists, initiates artistic projects and publications and acts as an advocate on behalf of individual artists. New website for Writing Groups
Writing4all Limited is to launch a website. www.ourwritinggroup.com is dedicated to writing groups covering poetry, fiction and non-fiction. The site, operated by the long-established www.writing4all.ie is an invaluable resource to writers and writing groups at all levels.
Cork Arts Network Website
At a meeting of various artists and arts workers in December, it was felt by most participants that a web site for a cork arts network was an important step. The site is now up and running at www.corkarts.org. Anyone can register and contribute / start new topics. Collaborators and contributors to the website are more than welcome.
