The Canon Sheehan Short Story Award at Cork County Library and Arts Service
Cork County Library and Arts Service seeks new writing talent. To mark the centenary celebrations of North Cork writer, Canon Patrick Sheehan, Cork County Library and Arts Service has launched The Canon Sheehan Short Story Award for secondary school students. Cork County Library will select the best ten entries to be published on the County Library website and the overall winning story will be published in the Mallow Field Club Journal in November 2012. Writing Workshops at Cork International Short Story Festival

A group of writing workshops has been programmed to run in conjunction with the Cork International Short Story Festival this September. Each course runs for four days from 9.30am to 12.30pm.. Bookings are now being taken for Short Stories for Beginners with Nuala Ní Chonchúir; Advanced Short Story Writing with Éilís Ní Dhuibhne; Flash Fiction with Tania Hershman; Contemporary Fairy Tales with Kate Bernheimer; Writing Children’s Short Stories (for adults) with former Children’s Laureate Siobhán Parkinson and Kevin Stevens; Story into Song with John Spillane; and Story onto Stage with Jack Healy. 2012 Over The Edge New Writer of The Year competition
In 2012 Over The Edge is continuing its annual creative writing competition, open to both poets and fiction writers. The winning poems and the winning story will both be published in a special Over The Edge Tenth Birthday anthology which will be published during 2013. Entries should be sent to Over The Edge, New Writer of the Year competition, 3 Carbry Road, Newcastle, Galway, Ireland - contact details on a separate sheet. Criteria: fiction of up to three thousand words, three poems of up to forty lines, or one poem of up to one hundred lines. The closing date is Wednesday, August 8th, 2012.
