Directors, Actors and Camera EveningCourse at Cork Film Centre
Cork Film Centre at Civic Trust House hosts an eight week evening course for anyone interested in deepening their skill in Directing, Acting or Camerawork and create showreel pieces in the process. It is open to both actors and film-makers to apply. Film-makers will learn how to get the best from their actors, maximise the dramatic impact of a scene and hone their camera skills. Actors will learn how to work the camera, understand what directors need and improve their understanding of the film-making process. Film-makers and actors will work together through guided exercises/shoots to improve their skills and create showreel pieces. This course is suited for anyone who has already completed a beginner's level film-making course but all applicants will be considered. Actors applying need have no film-making experience. Community Drama Training Programme for young people
NAYD is currently designing a new training programme for community-based groups and organisations who wish to engage with youth drama, in particular those that work with young people from disadvantaged communities. Participating community workers will be trained over a period of six months to develop facilitation skills in using drama as a methodology to empower young people. Auditions for The Sound of Music at Cork Opera House
Cork Opera House seeks the finest local talent around for their upcoming production of The Sound of Music, including children aged six to ten and eleven to sixteen years old to play the Von Trapp family kids - auditions will be held at Cork Opera House on the 14th, 15th and 16th May. Applicants will be required to sing one of three songs at the audition: Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things or The Lonely Goatherd. Call to create Performing Ensemble for Everyman Palace Opera Pagliacci
Everyman Palace Cork seeks to create a Performing Ensemble of Drama, Opera & Circus students & enthusiasts for upcoming Opera Pagliacci at Cork Midsummer Festival - the Everyman Palace is coming together with Cork Operatic Society, Cork Circus and clown company Barabbas to stage this work. The production is looking to include volunteer performers to form a performing ensemble for the Opera. Choral Bursary Scheme
AOIC is offering the second round of the Arts Council funded Choral Bursaries Scheme. The aim of this programme is to assist established amateur choirs in accessing high quality training programmes for their singers in the areas of sight-singing, ensemble singing, musicianship and vocal production. Irish Youth Choir /RTE Performing Groups Conductor in Training scheme
The IYC and RTÉ Performing Groups are offering a Conductor in Training Scheme, a funded and extended trainee choral conducting programme for 2012/14. In addition to access to IYC’s artistic director Greg Beardsell and to the all activities and programmes associated with the Irish Youth Choir, the successful applicant for this programme will have access to the RTE performing groups, in particular to the RTE Philharmonic Choir and Orchestras. For the first time, a bursary is to be made available to assist the 2012/14 conductor in training to engage with this unique opportunity. The Irish Youth Choir 2012 residential course will run from 23rd June to 1st July. At its conclusion two concerts will be given - 30th June as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival and 1st July in St Patrick's Cathedral Dublin. In addition, the IYC will perform at Kilkenny Arts Festival on August 11th. The Irish Youth Chamber Choir will reassemble in the autumn of 2012 for a number of performances. The successful candidate will play the fullest part possible in all IYC activities as performer (s/he will sing with the choir) and understudy for Greg Beardsell. There will be an opportunity to conduct the IYC in one piece in public performances: other opportunities will arise to give additional support and training to singers during the annual residential course, during Irish Youth Chamber Choir rehearsals and in other Irish Youth Choir training contexts. Doug DuBois receives Guggneheim Fellowship Award
Sirius Arts Centre is pleased to announce that Doug DuBois, has been honoured with a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship Award in America. Photographer and teacher, Doug DuBois has been working in partnership with the Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh County Cork Ireland since 2009 through Sirius’ international Artist in Residency Programme funded by the Arts Council and Cork County Council. This partnership has lead to the development of his new body of work, “My Last Day At Seventeen” which takes as its focus a housing estate in Cobh.
