The official opening of the Faber-Castell Business Campus, Fermoy, Co. Cork took place on the 11th October 2007. The 11 units, which are available to let comprise 8 industrial units and 3 office units ranging in size from 1194 sq ft to 2475sq ft. There is a high level of interest in the units which are being marketed by Collins O'Meara Auctioneers, Fermoy with 2 units already allocated. The proximity of the units located at the northern end of the town and close to the new Cork- Dublin motorway makes it a very attractive location.
Since the early 1990's Cork County Council's Economic Development Section has been assisting start up industries through the provision of incubator units and industrial together with other initiatives to create sustainable employment.
Cork County Council purchased the former Faber Castell complex from the Fermoy Enterprise Board in 1995 and since then it has been used for letting to a number of local companies.
In recent times it became clear to the Council that the building was in need of a major refurbishment to meet the most modern standards for letting of industrial units/offices.
Consulting Engineers, Michael Punch and Partners prepared the contract documents and the contractors, Sorensen construction ltd commenced work on the project in January this year. The €2.2 million development was completed on time and within budget.
Commenting on the proposed development, the County Manager, Mr. Martin Riordan said that this investment by Cork County Council will provide an environment for start up and existing companies to develop and grow their businesses and further emphasises the role Cork County Council is playing in providing a range of economic development supports for indigenous companies.
Mayor Tom Sheahan said that Cork County Council was leading the way in providing such facilities for the indigenous sector and in so doing were underpinning much needed employment opportunities throughout the County.
