Cork County Council liaises with Irish Water Safety (IWS) the statutory body to promote water safety in Ireland for the provision of instruction in water safety.
A recent recommendation for blue flag status is the availability of an Official Risk assessment for each Blue Flag beach. The IWS carry out these assessments.
Life guards are employed annually by Cork County Council during the summer season to patrol selected beaches. Life-saving equipment is provided at all other locations.
Lifeguards are on duty from 10am - 7pm during the bathing season, weekends in June and full time (week days and weekends) from July until the end of August.
For confirmation of the provision of lifeguards at beaches near you please see local beach Notice boards and Lifeguards flags on the beach.
