What is County Rate?
County Rate (more commonly known as Rates or Commercial Rates) is a local commercial property tax which part funds the revenue expenditure programme of Local Authorities. The types of property upon which rates are charged include shops, offices, factories, warehouses, hotels, licensed premises etc.
What are Rates used for?
The income received from rates contributes to the cost of providing many of the services which are operated by Cork County Council.
A sample of services which Cork County Council provides are:
- Economic Development including provision of incubation units
- Community Development
- County road maintenance and improvement
- House maintenance
- Fire Brigades and related services
- Planning control
- Parks, amenity areas and playgrounds
- Libraries and mobile libraries
- Town and Village renewal
- Beach Life Guards
- Cemeteries
