Building Energy Rating (BER)

  • Building Energy Rating Certificates (BER)

    Building Energy Rating
Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations, S.I. 666 of 2006 & S.I. 229 of 2008 set out the requirements to obtain a Building Energy Rating Certificate (BER) for a building when it is being offered for sale or letting unless it is exempt under Paragraph 3 of S.I. 666 of 2006.

The legislation states that any person who offers a building for sale or letting, and any agent acting on their behalf, is required to produce a printed copy of the BER certificate and advisory report:

    a)     To any person expressing an interest in purchasing or taking a letting of the building, and
    b)     On demand to the Building Control Authority.

BERs will be carried out by trained BER Assessors, registered by The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). A list of BER Assessors is available on the SEAI website .

Further information or copies of the relevant legislation are available to download from the DoEHLG website www.environ.ie or from the SEAI website http://www.seai.ie/Your_Building/BER/
