Planning Policy Unit (PPU)

  • Planning Policy Unit

    The Planning Policy Unit (PPU) is located on Floor 13, County Hall, Cork. The Planning Policy Unit is responsible for forward planning for County Cork. The PPU also has a key role in special work such as the Cork Area Strategic Plan, the North and West Cork Strategic Plan, as well as the Cork Retail Strategy and Joint Housing Strategy. It also carries out other special planning initiatives from time to time, many based on the unit's GIS capabilities, and provides advice to management on issues of planning policy.

    Electoral Area Local Area Plans 2011

    Local Area Plans have been prepared for each of the ten Electoral Areas in the county were formally made by Cork County Council at its meeting on 25th July, 2011 in accordance with the Planning and Development Acts. The plans came into force on 22nd August, 2011. Prior to the publication of the printed versions of the plans Cork County Council has prepared interim versions of the text of the ten Electoral Area Local Area Plan for information purposes. These interim documents are not the final Statutory documents. While every effort has been made to ensure these documents are correct, they are still subject to proofing and correction. The final Statutory Plan documents are expected to be available early 2012 and will also include the Statements on the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment, Appropriate Assessment and the Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Plans.

    Cork County Development Plan 2009 - 2015 

    Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Section 12(12)(a) of the Planning & Development Act 2000 (as amended), that Cork County Council being the Planning Authority for the County, has made The County Development Plan for the administrative area of County Cork, exclusive of the administrative areas of Cork City Council and the following Town Councils: Clonakilty, Cobh, Fermoy, Kinsale, Macroom, Mallow, Midleton, Skibbereen and Youghal. 

    The Development Plan come into effect on the 6th February, 2009.  Notice is also given, under Article 13I of the Planning & Development Regulations 2001 that an Environmental Statement of the Cork County Development Plan has been prepared and may be found in Appendix A Volume 1 of the County Development Plan 2009.      Local Area Plans and Special Local Area Plans 2005-2011.

    On 6th September, 2005 Cork County Council formally made 10 Local Area Plans for each of the 10 electoral areas of the County. Three Special Local Area Plans were also formally made. To view the current Local Area Plans please click on the following link  -Development Plans

    Mallow Special Local Area Plan

    Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Section 20(3) of the Planning & Development Acts, 2000 as amended by Section 9 of the Planning & Development (Amendment) Act, 2002 that Cork County Council and Mallow Town Council being the Planning Authorities for the town of Mallow and environs have adopted the Mallow Special Local Area Plan in June 2007. Please click on the following link to access the Mallow Special Local Plan Mallow SLAP
