Inner Sea is a video documentation of an installation created by visual artist Julia Pallone for Camden Fort Meagher near Crosshaven.
In her original installation created in 2011 Julia decided to flood an entire room at the Fort to create an impression of an artificial sea within the old building.
She says of the work; The 'inner sea' brings the place to life in a dreamlike atmosphere: the water reflects the arched ceiling and makes the room feel very deep (would Alice in Wonderland fall down there to reach unknown worlds ?)...and, when you look up, you can see through the window the real sea...
As part of the installation Julia created a series of tiny boats made from driftwood which the visitor is encouraged to push out into the water. As she says; The tiny boats, small fleet, could be a naval army from a child's perspective. War as a game, with boats that would only reach overseas in fairy tales; here they drift slowly with the currents, or go through patches of fog...
The video created by Julia in conjunction with French film maker Thomas Rabillon will be shown at the Exhibition Room, Cork County Council. Library Headquarters beside County Hall from May 18th to June 1st
Julia Pallone's installation, Inner Sea, along with other commissioned works from Julie Merriman, James L. Hayes, , Monica Boyle and poet Nell Regan will be on view at Camden Fort between July and September 2012
