Agricultural Planning: Planning Permission
Generally, planning permission is required for any development of land or property, unless it is specifically exempted from this need. The term 'development' includes the carrying out of any works, such as building, demolition or alteration, on any land or buildings. It includes the implementation of a material, significant change in the use of structures or land. Some structures may be exempt from planning permission, subject to size, location and other factors.
The Department of Environment and Local Government leaflet, entitled PL 6 - Agricultural and Farm Development - The Planning Issues
, provides good guidance on agricultural planning matters, and outlines the types of development that are exempted from planning permission.
Planning application forms and guidelines on procedures are available from the Planning section of the Cork County Council web site.
To avoid delays in carrying out developments, we recommend that you submit your planning application in good time, supplying sufficient, relevant information. If necessary, discuss the proposal with the area planner or staff from this office, prior to submission of your application. Even in cases where there are no problems or delays in processing the application, you can expect to wait approximately three months to get full and final permission to go ahead with your proposed development.
