Transfrontier Shipments (TFS)

  • Authorisation of Transfrontier Shipments (TFS)

For all shipments of hazardous waste, and for certain shipments of non-hazardous waste, it is necessary to obtain the consent of the competent authorities prior to shipping the waste. TFS documentation is required to authorise movement of such waste outside Ireland. This documentation is issued by the local authority in the area where the waste originates. It is a two-part document, comprising:

    • A Notification form
    • A Movement Tracking form

A TFS is valid for one year, and may be used for a single shipment or for a specified number of shipments. A financial guarantee to cover the cost to the local authority of return and subsequent recovery or disposal of the shipment in the event of difficulties is required for each TFS.

Please direct enquiries concerning TFS to 021 453 2700.
