Status of bathing water:  Green Coast 2011

Red Strand Beach is located 8km South of Clonakilty Town, 2km west of Ardfield on the Coast road. The beach is located in the south facing Dirk bay with the Dunowen headland to the east and the impressive Galley Head to the West. It consists of a 200m long roadside sandy beach that rises relatively the sea to the edge of the road.

This beach is located in an area of Scenic coastal landscape as designated in the Cork County Council Development Plan. There is a camping/caravan site within 500m of the beach.

Red Strand Beach is an extremely valuable resource to both residents and visitors for a number of reasons, including its scenery and landscape and for its safe and sheltered location for swimming and other recreational activities.
