  • Objectives and Projects

    The IT Department's projects are guided by several department-wide objectives, which are as follows:

    • To raise the profile of the IT department internally and externally.
    • To improve the working environment for IT staff.
    • To continually improve department documentation and standards.
    • To formalise the training needs of staff through the preparation of a staff development programme.
    • To provide mentoring and support to IT staff, in order to transfer knowledge on new technologies and methods.
    • To hold staff information meetings at agreed intervals to exchange information on developments, staff matters and progress within the department.
    • To take initiatives, such as the holding of open days, to foster the role and responsibilities of the IT Department and show how it can support the needs of other departments.
    • To manage the department's financial allocation and budgetary processes in line with good business practice.
    • To implement a customer charter.

    The IT Department is currently running over 60 projects. Many of these projects relate to the following areas:

    • A new and dynamic public web site
    • Scanning and document management
    • New planning contribution system
    • National Planning System (iPlan)
    • HOME system
    • Broadband proposal for DCMNR
    • Upgrade member access and equipment
    • Member Extranet
    • Pay-by-Weight
    • Upgrade of WAN
    • County-side phone strategy
    • County Hall Development
    • Fire Service system upgrade
    • Representation and complaints system
    • KPI system
    • Consolidated Debtors
    • Evaluation of contact centre
    • Burial grounds system
    • Version 2, Property Interest Register
    • Pay sheet system for area offices
    • Commercial water metering
    • GIS browser
    • Version 2, intranet
    • Trans-Frontier Shipment System
