Strategic Infrastructural Planning

  • Strategic Policy Committee

The Council's Strategic Policy Committee No. 2 Roads Transportation and Emergency, which includes Fire Services, holds regular meetings in order to develop, implement and renew policy issues. The Chairman of the committee is Councillor Tomas Ryan. The Committee affords both the elected representatives and local sectors the opportunity to become more involved in policy formation, in a spirit of partnership, for the benefit of the community.

The Committee meets every two-three months to consider policy issues relating to the road, transportation, and emergency services brief. The Director of Services and key senior officials attend to discuss these issues with the Committee. Attendance and the level of debate at the meetings has been very satisfactory.

Items dealt with by the Committee during 2003 include the following:

    • Cork Area Strategic Plan 2001-2020
    • North and West Cork Strategic Plan 2002-2020
    • National Roads Programme
    • Non-National Roads Programme
    • Broadband Strategy for County Cork
    • Cork Joint Major Emergency Plan
    • Fire Station Building and Refurbishment Programmes
    • Cork county Transport Strategy
    • Mobilising the Emergency Services through C.A.M.P
    • Green Routes/Quality Bus Corridors
    • Operational Building Control Regulations
