Environment
The Town Council has important functions in relation to the environment in the Town. These functions include:
- Funding and promotion of the Tidy Town’s Committee;
- Employment of part-time Litter Warden;
- Street Maintenance;
- Maintenance of Town Parks;
- Monitoring and Enforcement in respect of Derelict Sites;
- Provision and maintenance of Public Conveniences;
- Monitoring and Enforcement of Public Health Nuisances;
- Monitoring and Enforcement of Indiscriminate Dumping

Promotion of Waste Reduction and Recycling:
The Council actively promotes Waste Reduction and Recycling as part of its Waste Management Policy through the operation of “Bring Centres” for the deposit of glass, cans and paper.This is located at the area office in Kinsale who are contactable on 021 4772137
Opening times are:
8:30 am to 4:30pm (Monday to Friday)
8:30am to 12:30pm (Sat.)
Monitoring and Enforcement in respect of Dangerous Buildings and Structures
Under the Sanitary Services Legislation, the Council is entitled to serve Notices on Property owners where, in the opinion of the Council, the property is dangerous. In cases of emergency the Council is empowered to render such properties safe.
Monitoring and Enforcement in respect of Derelict Sites
Under the provisions of the Derelict Sites Act, 1990, the Council is entitled to serve Notices on the owners/occupiers of Derelict Sites requiring that steps be taken to remove the dereliction. Kinsale Town Council maintains a Register of Derelict Sites on a Divisional basis which is available for public inspection. Under the provisions of the Derelict Sites Act the Council may:
1. impose a derelict sites levy in respect of certain sites entered in the register
2. remove the dereliction and recover the costs incurred from the owner/occupier
3. compulsorily acquire derelict sites.
