Public transport serving East Cork is about to receive a
major boost through the re-opening of the Cork-Midleton Rail
Line (see map)
planned for 2008 and similar service improvements on the
Cork - Cobh Rail Line (see map).
New commuter services will link Cork, Carrigtwohill and Midleton and
a new park-and-ride station is planned for Dunkettle.
Cork
County Council plan to introduce a range of measures to help
everyone make the best use of the new trains. For example, these
measures might include new car parks, pedestrian and cycle
facilities, better bus connections, improved information on bus and
train services, competitive and convenient fare and ticketing
arrangements and improved links from Kent Station to the city centre
and beyond.
FOR THIS TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOUR INPUT IS
VITAL! The first step is to undertake a detailed study
of the travel patterns of the people within this area. For the week beginning 16th October 2006
Cork County Council are asking all daily commuters within this area
to fill out a travel diary for 1 week and submit this form by one of
2 means.
