Cork County Council today announced plans to develop a Boardwalk on the western wall of Mallow Bridge. The bridge, spanning the River Blackwater, is a recorded protected structure dating back to 1712 and is a major access route to Mallow Town Centre. The proposed Boardwalk development is estimated to cost in the region of €1.2 million and will be funded by the Council and an EU Designated Urban Centres grant worth €1 million.
Cork County Council is pleased to launch its West Cork Islands Community Fund Scheme 2019. Initiated by the Elected Members of Cork County Council when considering the 2019 budget, it was agreed to set aside a fund of €50,000 ring fenced to support Island community development through small scale capital and amenity projects on the Islands.
The scheme was officially launched at the March Monthly Meeting of the Municipal District of West Cork held on March 4th.
Cork County Council closed part of Oliver Plunkett, Bandon Street on December 10th 2018 because of concerns that the condition of privately owned buildings presented a serious risk to public safety. The road closure was a very important action that prevented falling debris from injuring people on the street or travelling past in vehicles when part of the building subsequently collapsed onto the road.
Cork County Council is committed to supporting local communities with financial assistance available through the Municipal District Community Fund scheme which is administered by the Council’s eight Municipal Districts in County Cork. This scheme is now open for applications under 3 strands.
The Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport have announced the ‘Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund’. This is a capital allocation of at least €100m over the period 2019 to 2027 for the entire country. The funding is aimed at National Governing Bodies (NGBs) as well as Local Authorities.
Bandon will soon welcome additional recreational facilities with plans progressing for a new playground and library.
Cork County Council is working with the local community group on progressing the playground project and hopes to go to planning in early 2019.
Donated by Cork Marts, the proposed playground would be located next to the popular Councils Multi Use Games Area and Skate Park, the new playground will enlarge the existing public park space which abuts the N71 and River Bandon.

Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy officially opened the exciting new project which has been funded by Cork County Council and the Department of Community & Rural Development.
In accordance with Section 25 of the Taxi Regulation Act, as amended, Cork County Council proposes to make Bye Laws for the creation and regulation of appointed stands in Douglas County Cork. A copy of the draft Bye Laws is available for inspection at Floor 5, County Hall; Council Offices in Carrigaline and Douglas Library during normal working hours until 20th July 2018. A copy of the draft Bye-Laws can be obtained from the Council Office on Floor 5 County Hall.
