Composer in the Classroom.
Each academic year, two post-primary schools in Cork County are selected host a composer in residence programme for transition year or 5th groups. The project is operated in partnership with the Cork International Choral Festival which provides a performance opportunity as part of its main programme for the school groups to perform their new compositions.
The 2016/17 residency is taking place in schools in Bandon and Midleton. The composers working on the project are Paul Linehan and Fergal O’Connor.
Tuning Up is the Council's Music in Schools programme which operates during the school academic year. In 2016/17 the programme featured the Ortus trio, Dagda Ensemble and the Irish Guitar Quartet, and Alex Petcu’s Bangers and Crash ensemble. This programme is delivered for Cork County Council through a service agreement with West Cork Music.
This Circus in Schools project is undertaken in partnership with Aaran Towers formerly of Cork Circus. The programme is designed to offer children at primary school an opportunity to experience storytelling as physical theatre over a number of interactive sessions. Approximately twelve schools participate in this programme annually.
