'The Brigade' - A living History Documentary exploring the War of Independence in West Cork

'The Brigade', a living history documentary exploring the lives of the ordinary West Cork men and women who fought for Irish freedom during the War of Independence will air on RTÉ1 on Thursday June 13th and Thursday June 20th. In the documentary, a group of 12 Volunteers were chosen after an open day at Clonakilty GAA. They then spent a week training as a flying column in locations in Kilbrittain, Enniskeane and Kilmichael.

Cork Summer Show

This year’s Cork Summer Show, sponsored by Cork County Council, has an even bigger line up than ever, with helicopter rides, drone racing, the artisan food marquee and Frank & Walters band and Stephanie Rainey added to the stellar line up.  As always  the event will feature the traditional Show staples from breeds of cattle, competitions for hunters, ponies and horses as well as sheep, goats, poultry, trade stands and machinery exhibits. This year, the Horse Jumping events are also supported by Cork County Council.   

Cruinniú na nÓg in the County of Cork

The involvement of young people in cultural and creative projects has so many positive benefits and this is one of the key principles underlying Ireland’s National Day of Culture for Young People- Cruinniú na nÓg. Now in its second year, Cruinniú na nÓg celebrates and encourages participation by children and young people in creative activities in their local neighbourhoods and communities.

A talk on recent Archaeological Discoveries in Buttevant by Trish Long

Buttevant Heritage Group are delighted to announce a presentation by Trish Long of Rubicon: “To Enclose it with Walls”: Archaeological Discoveries Regarding Medieval and Late Buttevant. Rubicon Heritage Services Ltd were the archaeologists in Buttevant throughout the recent roadworks. Trish will deliver an analysis of the archaeological works that took place during the street works in 2015-16. So many people admire how well the town looks and now we will learn of the significance of the painstaking archaeological works that took place on the Main Street.

Making a Scene Workshop

LifeFM 93.1, in association with Cork County Council Library & Arts Service is delighted to launch “Making a Scene” a new series that will celebrate and showcase the budding playwrights of Cork County.

Creators of high quality radio dramas for ten years, we will use our expertise to help writers of Cork County create their own on air drama. We are seeking out radio drama scripts from Cork County residents, to produce them for broadcast. Each episode will begin with a short note on the writer followed by their work, as performed by our experienced inhouse actors.

Charleville Agricultural Show to include Pop-up Museum and Visit of Croesgoch Heritage Society and Goodwick Brass Band

VISIT OF CROESGOCH HERITAGE SOCIETY AND GOODWICK BRASS BAND TO CHARLEVILLE - Charleville Heritage Society is twinned with the Croesgoch Heritage Society (near Fishguard) in Wales. Some of latter's members are also associated with the nearby Goodwick Brass Band, who are UK and Welsh national title winners and one of the top brass bands in the world. Charleville will be hosting members of the Croesgoch Heritage Society over the last weekend in June and the 42 strong Goodwick Band is also coming to town.
