Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Christopher O’Sullivan and Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey today conveyed their congratulations to this year’s Tidy Towns participants and winners from throughout Cork.

Cork County saw 95 entrants across all categories. Towns and Villages from Cork were awarded 20 medals, including 4 Gold, 6 Silver, and 10 Bronze Medals.

In addition, Cork entrants dominated the Islands Awards, with Bere Island as the National Award Winner and Sherkin Island being Highly Commended. Cobh Tidy Towns and Cobh Zero Waste were highly commended in the special Waste Prevention Award, and neighbouring Glounthaune Tidy Towns won 3rd place in the special Sustainable Development Award for the Cois Chuain Walk. Ronan McMahon of Kinsale Tidy Towns was highly commended in the Community Heroes 2019 competition.

Commenting on Cork’s Success, Mayor O’Sullivan said

“I am extremely proud of the performance of communities throughout the county and I am extremely grateful for the tireless work of the volunteers. Their work is incredible and inspiring. Their dedication and personal sacrifice have made County Cork a cleaner, more beautiful and safer place to live. I look forward to seeing Cork County Council continue to work alongside Tidy Towns groups from around the County and support them in any way we can”.

Cork County Council Chief Executive Tim Lucey went on to say

“Tidy Towns organisations and their communities have a huge positive impact on the County. In volunteering their time, they add immeasurable value from the perspective of tourism, natural and cultural heritage and community pride. I personally congratulate the many groups from Cork receiving national recognition for their work.”
