Library Staff with delivery boxes filled with books, ready to be sent to members of the community
Body

From the onset of the Covid 19 crisis, Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Services has continued to find ways to serve the community of Cork, taking a leading role in the community response by providing new and existing members with an innovative Housebound Delivery Service.

The service initially focused on the provision of books and magazines to those within our communities who were required to self isolate or cocoon, following the introduction of  Covid 19 guidelines. Having recently surpassed 1,000 home deliveries, the service has since been expanded to include musical instruments and the distribution of activity packs for children and their families in Direct Provision.

Containing colouring challenges, puzzle activities, word games and activity sheets, the packs have been delivered to residents in Millstreet, Mallow and Clonakilty, with additional deliveries planned. Cork Sports Partnership’s activity booklet and Cork County Council’s ‘Colourful Heritage of County Cork’ publication have also been included; providing activities for all ages.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Ian Doyle welcomed the initiative saying:

“Our Libraries are central to the council’s mission of improving quality of life, providing a safe environment for recreation, relaxation and education for all members of the community of County Cork. Although the library doors are closed to the public for now, library staff continue to reach out to the community and the success of these services show that they are needed now more than ever. When the struggle with Covid 19 is over, we can look back with pride on the work that has been done to support one another during this time.”

Cork County Council’s Housebound Delivery service is now available across the county to serve those who are cocooning and isolating throughout the duration of this pandemic.  If you, or anyone you know, needs help accessing collection or delivery of food, essential household items, fuel, medication or simply needs some non-emergency/non-medical advice or support, please contact Cork County Council’s Covid 19 Community Call Helpline on the dedicated and confidential FREE Number 1800 805 819 everyday from 8.00am to 8.00pm or call +353 21 4285517 from outside of Ireland to seek assistance for a relative or friend. Ó thús na géarchéime Covid 19, lean Seirbhísí Leabharlainne agus Ealaíon Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí ag lorg bealaí chun freastal ar phobal Chorcaí, ag glacadh ról ceannasach i bhfreagairt an phobail trí Sheirbhís Seachadta Teaghlaigh nuálach a sholáthar do bhaill nua agus do bhaill atá ann cheana.

Dhírigh an tseirbhís i dtosach ar leabhair agus irisí a sholáthar dóibh siúd inár bpobail a raibh orthu iad féin a aonarú nó clutharú, nuair a tháinig treoirlínte Covid 19 isteach. Tar éis dul thar 1,000 seachadadh baile le déanaí, leathnaíodh an tseirbhís ó shin chun uirlisí ceoil agus dáileadh pacáistí gníomhaíochta do leanaí agus a dteaghlaigh atá ag fanacht i Soláthar Díreach.

San áireamh sa phacáiste seo tá dúshláin dathúcháin, puzail, cluichí focal agus bileoga gníomhaíochta curtha ar fáil. Seachadadh na pacáistí do chónaitheoirí i Sráid an Mhuilinn, Mala agus Cloich na Coillte, agus tá seachadadh breise beartaithe. Cuireadh leabhrán gníomhaíochta Chomhpháirtíocht Spóirt Chorcaí agus foilseachán ‘Dúchas Dathannach Chontae Chorcaí’ de chuid Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí san áireamh freisin. Soláthraíonn an pacáiste seo gníomhaíochtaí  do gach aois.

D’fháiltigh Méara Chontae Chorcaí, an Comhairleoir Ian Doyle roimh an tionscnamh ag rá:

Tá ár Leabharlanna lárnach i misean na comhairle cáilíocht na beatha a fheabhsú, timpeallacht shábháilte a sholáthar le haghaidh áineasa, scíthe agus oideachais do gach ball de phobal Chontae Chorcaí. Cé go bhfuil doirse na leabharlainne dúnta don phobal anois, leanann foireann na leabharlainne ag leathnú amach chuig an bpobal agus léiríonn rath na seirbhísí seo go bhfuil siad ag teastáil anois níos mó ná riamh. Nuair a bheidh an streachailt le Covid 19 thart, is féidir linn breathnú siar le bród ar an obair atá déanta chun tacú lena chéile le linn na tréimhse seo. "

Tá seirbhís Seachadta Teaghlaigh Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí ar fáil anois ar fud an chontae chun freastal orthu siúd atá ag clutharú agus ag aonarú ar feadh ré na paindéime seo.
