Council Awards Cork County Road Resurfacing Contract 2021

Cork County Council has recently appointed Lagan Asphalt Ltd., for the Cork County Road Resurfacing Contract 2021.  Valued at €1,600,000, this is the first in a number of road resurfacing contracts that Cork County Council will procure this year.

The resurfacing contract incorporates 13 sites extending to 10km of rural and urban road improvement works at locations throughout the county including Cobh, Belvelly, Ballyvaloon, Garranenageevogue, Mallow, Clonakilty, Bealad, Dereeney, Beal na Blath and Dripsey.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley welcomed the announcement saying;

“Road management and maintenance is a vital part of Cork County Council’s service to the communities in our remit. The works secured by this contract will enable greater accessibility and safety for our towns and villages and are well timed to make the most of domestic travel in the summer months ahead and will bolster the efforts of the Council and the Cork County community to make the most of the easing of restrictions.”

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey noted;

“Rural road networks play a vital role in supporting community and economic activity in Cork County. This investment of €1.6 million represents an investment in quality of life for our residents and will support many separate efforts to ensure that Cork County towns and villages are safe and accessible. Securing our roads infrastructure benefits commuters and all roads users, connects people with Cork businesses and enables us to stay connected as a community.”

The scope of the works includes road resurfacing, major road reconstruction, traffic-calming measures, drainage and associated works. The works due to commence in May are programmed to take 2 months to complete and will enhance the road network and improve road safety for all road users.
