Hosted by the mayor of the county of Cork Cllr Gerard Patrick Murphy in association with media partner The Southern Star, the Rewind to the 80s night was a phenomenal success raising a grand total of €30000 for the worthy charities.
The funds raised have been distributed evenly between the Mayor’s three chosen charities Cancer Connect, Cork ARC and Co-Action and cheques of €10000 each were presented to the charity representatives today.
Speaking at the presentation of cheques, Mayor Murphy expressed gratitude to all who supported the event, commenting
‘I am very pleased to say that in one fun- filled event where a great night was had by all, we have collected a significant amount of money for these really worthy causes. It speaks volumes for the generosity and goodwill of people in Cork and I am confident that these three excellent charities will work hard to ensure that they achieve as much possible with the monies raised. These charities have touched the lives of so many people and carry out absolutely fantastic work.’
Representatives from the charities thanked all who supported the event and expressed their appreciation at having been selected by the County Mayor, noting how the proceeds of the Mayor’s Charity night will be of great assistance.
