Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service is delighted to welcome a photographic exhibition by internationally renowned music photographer, Govert de Roos, to Cobh Library. Running from April 1st to the 29th, the exhibition features live shots of Rory Gallagher, as well as portraits of other music stars of that era and is part of the 2023 Cobh Readers and Writers Festival.

In 1969, at the age of 15 Dutch photographer Govert de Roos came to international attention when he captured some of the most iconic images of John Lennon and Yoko Ono while hosting their Bed-In for Peace. Throughout his career, de Roos captured a plethora of other musical greats including Debbie Harry, Prince and Rory Gallagher.  Govert photographed Irish rock star Rory Gallagher at a live concert in The Hague on March 23rd, 1976, catching this extraordinary entertainer at his performing peak.  These incredible shots are brought together for this exciting exhibition.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Danny Collins welcomed the exhibition to Cobh, saying

Many of these images by Govert de Roos are iconic, shining a light on the stories associated with a special time in music history. Rory Gallagher had a close family connection to Cobh. I am sure local people and music lovers will enjoy this unique opportunity to see his talent through the eyes of a photographer’s lens.

The exhibition will launch in Cobh Library on Saturday, April 1st at 2.00pm.
