Marking Cork Volunteer Week 2020, Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. Ian Doyle has expressed his gratitude for the heroic voluntary effort that has come to fore throughout the county in the struggle against Covid 19.

As part of the national response to the Covid 19 crisis, Cork County Council has coordinated a countywide Community Response Programme, bringing together statutory and voluntary organisations. Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. Ian Doyle welcomed the opportunity of this year’s Cork Volunteer Week to acknowledge the vital contribution of the many volunteers who have played a key part in Cork County’s Community Call response.

Under normal circumstances, Cork Volunteer Week, organised by Cork Volunteer Centre, delivers a programme of face to face events to showcase the phenomenal work done in Cork. As such events cannot take place this year due to Covid 19; the focus is on recognising, celebrating and thanking Cork’s volunteers virtually for their incredible response to this challenging situation.

As Mayor of the County of Cork and as a member of the Cork County Community Support Forum, Cllr Ian Doyle welcomed this initiative by Cork Volunteer Centre, saying:

“Over two months ago, our communities, our county and our nation were faced with a crisis, the likes of which has not been experienced in living history. Each and every one of us has been asked to make extraordinary sacrifices, and in making them we have succeeded in flattening the curve. Some members of our community went even further, our frontline emergency workers and volunteers. I would like to congratulate Cork Volunteer Centre on the amazing work that they do and for co-ordinating this week of celebration to acknowledge the incredible work carried out by volunteers. Now is an important time to recognise the heroes in our midst, and I invite everyone to participate on social media by sharing your gratitude with the hashtags #RebelResponse and #CVW2020, and tagging @VolunteerCork between now and May 24th.”

Nominations are now open for Cork Volunteer Awards 2020, visit www.volunteercork.ie for details on how to nominate.

Ag marcáil Seachtain na n-Oibrithe Deonacha Chorcaí 2020, chuir Méara Chontae Chorcaí, an Clr. Ian Doyle a bhuíochas in iúl as an iarracht dheonach ghaisce a tháinig chun tosaigh ar fud an chontae sa streachailt in aghaidh Covid 19.

Mar chuid den fhreagairt náisiúnta ar ghéarchéim Covid 19, chomhordaigh Comhairle Contae Chorcaí Clár Freagartha Pobail ar fud an Chontae, ag tabhairt eagraíochtaí reachtúla agus deonacha le chéile. D'fháiltigh Méara Chontae Chorcaí, an Clr. Doyle an deis a dtugann Seachtain na n-Oibrithe Deonacha dúinn i mbliana aitheantas a thabhairt don obair ríthábhachtach atá déanta ag an iliomad saorálaithe a raibh páirt lárnach acu i bhfreagra Glao Pobail Chontae Chorcaí.

Faoi ghnáththosca, seachadann Seachtain na n-oibrithe deonacha Chorcaí, arna eagrú ag Ionad d'Obair Dheonach Corcaigh, clár d’imeachtaí aghaidh ar aghaidh chun an obair iontach a dhéantar i gCorcaigh a thaispeáint. Ar an drochuair, ní féidir imeachtaí dá leithéid a reáchtáil  mar sin i mbliana de bharr Covid 19; mar sin dírítear ar oibrithe deonacha Chorcaí a aithint, a cheiliúradh agus buíochas a ghabháil leo, trí mhodh fhíorúil, as a bhfreagra dochreidte ar an staid dhúshlánach seo.

Mar Mhéara Chontae Chorcaí agus mar bhall d’Fhóram Tacaíochta Pobail Chontae Chorcaí, d’fháiltigh an Comhairleoir Ian Doyle roimh an tionscnamh seo ag Ionad d'Obair Dheonach Corcaigh, ag rá:

“Níos mó ná dhá mhí ó shin, bhí géarchéim os comhair ár bpobail, ár gcontae agus ár náisiúin, rud nach bhfacthas a leithéid riamh sa stair bheo. Iarradh ar gach duine againn íobairtí urghnácha a dhéanamh, agus d’éirigh linn an cuar a leacú. Chuaigh roinnt ball dár bpobal níos faide fós, ár n-oibrithe éigeandála tús-líne agus oibrithe deonacha. Ba mhaith liom comhghairdeas a rá le hIonad d'Obair Dheonach Corcaigh as an obair iontach a dhéanann siad agus as an tseachtain cheiliúrtha seo a chomhordú chun aitheantas a thabhairt don obair dochreidte a dhéanann oibrithe deonacha. Is am tábhachtach é anois aitheantas a thabhairt do na laochra inár measc, agus tugaim cuireadh do gach duine páirt a ghlacadh ar na meáin shóisialta trí do bhuíochas a roinnt leis na haischlibeanna  #RebelResponse agus # CVW2020, agus @VolunteerCork a chlibeáil idir seo agus 24ú Bealtaine. "
