Bantry Flood Relief Scheme Public Participation Event

Historically and in recent years Bantry has been severely and repeatedly impacted by major flood events. Earlier this year, Cork County Council working with the Office of Public Works (OPW) appointed JB Barry and Partners Ltd and JBA Consulting Engineers and Scientists Ltd, as consultant for the Bantry Flood Relief Scheme.

County Libraries Launch Rainbow Library Course

As part of its Rainbow Libraries initiative, Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Services are inviting young LGBTQIA+ writers and artists to take part in the free Rainbow Library course, developed in partnership with Pop Up Projects and Creative Ireland. Participants can have their work published and the opportunity to collaborate with an established writer and illustrator.

Creative Places West Cork Islands Launched on Whiddy Island

‘Creative Places: West Cork Islands’ has been launched by Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Gillian Coughlan at Whiddy Island Community Centre. Forming part of the Arts Council’s Creative Places programme 2021-2024, the programme will see Cork County Council lead a consortium of local arts and development agencies that inclues Bere Island Projects Group, Sherkin Island Development Society, Comharchumann Chléire and Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre.

Saddle Up for Bike Week Cork 2022 

Launching a countywide programme of events for Bike Week Cork 2022, Cork County Council is encouraging people of all ages to get on their bike and to discover the joys of cycling.  Bike Week Cork 2022 runs from Saturday May 14th to Sunday May 22nd celebrating the many benefits of cycling, with more than 200 events organised during the week.

Camden Fort Meagher Opens to Visitors

Camden Fort Meagher, Crosshaven will reopen to visitors this summer season from May 28th. This will be the first time the 16th Century coastal artillery fort opens to the public in 2 years, following a temporary closure due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Council makes €3.6M Investment in North Cork Roads

Cork County Council have recently appointed Lagan Asphalt Ltd., for the Kanturk/Mallow & Fermoy Municipal Districts Road Resurfacing Contract 2022. The resurfacing contract is valued at 3.6 million euro and incorporates 25 sites extending to 23km of rural and urban road improvement works throughout the County.

Cork County Awarded nearly €400,000 for Local Heritage

Under the Community Monuments Fund 2022, operated by the National Monuments Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, four applications from Cork County were successful. These applicants include projects and undertakings in respect of Castleview Mills; Dromtarriffe Church, Coolbane Mill and Templebreedy Graveyard Crosshaven, being awarded a combined sum of €212,220.

Cork County Heroes Honoured at 2022 County Mayor’s Community Awards

Outstanding contributions made by individuals and community and voluntary groups across Cork County was showcased at the 9th Annual Mayor’s Community Awards. Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Gillian Coughlan presented a total of twelve awards on the night, including a special posthumous presentation, with Noreen Minihan from West Cork winning the overall Individual award and Passage West Creates winning the overall Community Group award.
