Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Services Hosts World Renowned Storyteller Taffy Thomas

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service has announced that Passage West and Cobh Libraries will host special guest world-renowned UK-based storyteller Taffy Thomas on Wednesday the 13th of March. Thomas will first visit Passage West Library at 11am, followed by an event in Cobh Library at 2pm. Both events are free to the public and no booking is required.

'From The Well' Short Story Competition 2024

Cork County Council Library and Arts Service is accepting submissions to the From the Well Short Story competition 2024. The competition invites entries from writers aged 18 and over who are registered members of any library. From the Well is a long standing short story anthology published annually by Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service.

‘Emotion’ by Ciara Chapman to Open at Cork County Council’s LHQ Gallery

Cork County Council LHQ Gallery will host ‘Emotion’, an exhibition by artist Ciara Chapman, that looks at human emotion, change and growth. The exhibition opens on Thursday, October 26th and will run until November 24th, with an opening event on Saturday, October 28th from 11am to 12.30pm. Entrance to the exhibition and the opening event are free of charge.

The EPA and Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service have launched a library loan scheme of digital radon monitors and is calling on householders in County Cork to take the first step to protect themselves and their families from radon, a cancer-causing radioactive gas. Many  areas in County Cork are at high risk - with one in five homes in those areas likely to have high levels of radon. Cork County Council Library Card Competition

To celebrate Cork County Cuts Carbon – Make One Change month this November, Cork County Council Library & Arts Service would like to invite you to design a library card that celebrates sustainability. The winning design will feature on our new adult membership cards. The successful entrant will also receive a €150 voucher. There will also be 2 runner-up prizes of €25.

Ukrainian Book Collection Launched at Youghal Library (Bilingual Ukrainian)

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service at Youghal Library has received a wonderful gift of 330 books in the Ukrainian language, generously donated by people in Kyiv, Ukraine and Bratislava in Slovakia. The collection includes a mix of adult books and children’s books, many of which are popular favourites.
