Temporary Closing Of Public Road

Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, that Cork County Council will, pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act , 1993, temporarily close the public road as detailed below, for the period and for the reason specified and that the alternative routes described below will be available while the road is temporarily closed.

Road to be Closed:

The N73 National Secondary Road from the junction of the N72 and N73 at Oliver’s Cross to the east of Mallow Town to the junction of the N73 and R639 (Mitchelstown Relief Road) at Stag Park to the west of Mitchelstown.

Period of Closure:

From Wednesday 28th September 2022 at 19.30hrs to Wednesday 15th March 2023 at 07.00hrs (or such earlier date as may be determined by Cork County Council).

Reason for Closure:

To facilitate road widening works on the N73 National Secondary Route and in the interest of public safety.

Alternative Routes:

Mitchelstown and Fermoy Traffic to Mallow

Traffic travelling from Mitchelstown or Fermoy to Mallow shall turn onto the R639 at Stag’s Cross and continue on the R639 to the roundabout with the R513. Then turn right on to the R639 and continue towards Fermoy. Continue on the R639 to the M8 Junction 13 and travel over the bridge on the R639 and continue to the junction of the R639 and the M8 Junction 14 to the east of Fermoy. Continue on the R639 to the junction of the N72 at Christ Church Junction. Turn right at this junction and travel west along the N72. Continue along the N72 to the village of Ballyhooly. Then continue along the N72 westwards to the village of Castletownroche. Continue through the village of Castletownroche along the N72 and on to the junction of the N72 and the N73 at Oliver’s Cross.

Mallow Traffic to Fermoy and Mitchelstown

Traffic travelling from Mallow to Mitchelstown and Fermoy shall keep on the N72 at Oliver’s Cross and travel along the N72 east to the village of Castletownroche. Then continue east along the N72 to the village of Ballyhooly and continue to the junction of the N72 and the R639. Then turn left and travel along the R639 to the junction of the R639 and the M8 at Junction 14 to the east of Fermoy. Cross over the bridge of the R639 and continue along the R639 to Junction 13 of the M8. Travel over the bridge of the M8 and continue northwards. Continue up to the roundabout on the junction of the R639 and the R513. Then turn left off the roundabout on the R639 and travel west to join the N73 at the roundabout at the N73 and the R639.

Mallow traffic to Kildorrery

Traffic travelling from Mallow to Kildorrery shall keep on the N72 at Oliver’s Cross and travel along the N72 east to the village of Castletownroche. Then continue east along the N72 to the village of Ballyhooly, and continue east along the N72 to the junction of the N72 and the R513. Turn left on to the R513 and continue to the village of Glanworth. Continue along the R513 through the village of Rockmills and into the village of Kildorrery at the junction of the R513 and the N73.

Mitchelstown traffic to Kildorrery.

Traffic travelling from Mitchelstown to Kildorrery shall turn onto the R639 at Stag’s Cross and continue on the R639 to the roundabout with the R513. Turn right on to the R639 and continue towards Fermoy. Continue on the R639 to the M8 Junction 13 and travel over the bridge on the R639 and continue to the junction of the R639 and the M8 Junction 14 to the east of Fermoy. Then continue on the R639 to the junction of the N72 and the R639 at Christ Church Junction in Fermoy. Turn right on to the N72 and continue to the junction of the N72 and the R513. Turn right on to the R513 and continue to the village of Glanworth. Then continue along the R513 through the village of Rockmills and into the village of Kildorrery at the junction of the R513 and the N73.

The diversion routes will be fully signposted. Local access will be maintained.
