No Swim Notice for The Abbey, Bantry

In response to a notification of water pollution in Bantry today, Cork County Council staff have identified the source of pollution and the Council’s Environmental Department are working with the relevant parties to resolve the issue.

Cork County Council will shortly erect a sign to say that swimming is prohibited at the Abbey until the issue is resolved.

Red Strand

Bathing Water Status: Identified 2019

Red Strand is Green Flag Beach located in a horseshoe bay near Rosscarbery in County Cork. It is quite popular for surfing and has reasonably consistent surf all year round. The beach is accessible from the roadside, however there is no wheelchair access here and no designated car park. There are however a few spaces on the roadside where visitors can park.

Oysterhaven

Bathing Water Status: Green Coast 2019

Oysterhaven Beach is located in Ballinaclashet Creek approximately 6 km east of Kinsale, & 3.3 km south west of Nohaval, in Co. Cork.  Oysterhaven Beach is a west facing sandy,shingle beach. The beach is located within Oysterhaven Bay which is a sheltered south facing inlet.   The beach is flanked at both sides by low rocky cliffs.

Coolmain

Status of bathing water:  Identified Bathing Water 2019

Coolmain beach is located south of Kilbrittain village. It is a sandy beach with sand dunes behind the beach separating the beach and the car park.

Garrylucas, White Strand

Status of bathing water: Blue Flag 2019

Garrylucas, White Strand is a sandy beach with sand dunes in part.  It is located beside the R604 road and adjacent to Kilcolman Marsh and the Old Head of Kinsale and within a short distance of Ballinspittle by car.  Public parking and toilets are provided adjacent to the beach and lifeguards are on duty during the summer season.  Access to the beach by ramps and steps.

Garretstown

Status of bathing water: Blue Flag 2019

Garretstown is a sandy beach. It is located on the R604 and adjacent to Kilcolman Marsh and The Old Head of Kinsale and within a short distance of Ballinspittle village by car. Public car parking, toilet facilities and lifebuoys are provided at the beach. Life guards are on duty during the bathing season. Access to the beach by ramps and steps. Wheelchair access is provided.
