Potential impact on bathing waters at Courtmacsherry Bay Beach

Due to an Irish water wastewater Infrastructure failure at Timoleague, there may be a possible impact on bathing water at Courtmacsherry Bay Beach. Following consultation with the HSE as a precaution, a Prohibition Notice is being placed at Courtmacsherry Bay Beach today 18/06/2021. Irish Water and Cork County council are on site carrying out investigations  at Timoleague. Samples will be taken from the bathing water at Courtmacsherry Bay Beach in the coming days and the situation will be reviewed as investigations progress and when full results are available.

Following consultation with the HSE as a precaution,  a Prohibition Notice is being placed at Coolmaine Beach today Friday the 18th of June 2021. Irish Water and Cork County council are on site carrying out investigations  at Timoleague. Samples will be taken from Coolmaine bathing water in the coming days and the situation will be reviewed as investigations progress and when full results are available.

No Swim Notice for The Abbey, Bantry

In response to a notification of water pollution in Bantry today, Cork County Council staff have identified the source of pollution and the Council’s Environmental Department are working with the relevant parties to resolve the issue.

Cork County Council will shortly erect a sign to say that swimming is prohibited at the Abbey until the issue is resolved.

Red Strand

Bathing Water Status: Identified

Red Strand is Green Flag Beach located in a horseshoe bay near Rosscarbery in County Cork. It is quite popular for surfing and has reasonably consistent surf all year round. The beach is accessible from the roadside, however there is no wheelchair access here and no designated car park. There are however a few spaces on the roadside where visitors can park.

Bathing Water Status: Other Monitored Water

Oysterhaven Beach is located in Ballinaclashet Creek approximately 6 km east of Kinsale, & 3.3 km south west of Nohaval, in Co. Cork.  Oysterhaven Beach is a west facing sandy, shingle beach. The beach is located within Oysterhaven Bay which is a sheltered south facing inlet.   The beach is flanked at both sides by low rocky cliffs.

Coolmain

Status of bathing water:  Identified Bathing Water

Coolmain beach is located south of Kilbrittain village. It is a sandy beach with sand dunes behind the beach separating the beach and the car park.
