Due to an Irish water wastewater Infrastructure failure at Timoleague, there may be a possible impact on bathing water at Courtmacsherry Bay Beach. Following consultation with the HSE as a precaution, a Prohibition Notice is being placed at Courtmacsherry Bay Beach today 18/06/2021. Irish Water and Cork County council are on site carrying out investigations at Timoleague. Samples will be taken from the bathing water at Courtmacsherry Bay Beach in the coming days and the situation will be reviewed as investigations progress and when full results are available.

Irish Water and Cork County council are on site carrying out investigations at Timoleague. Samples will be taken from Coolmaine bathing water in the coming days and the situation will be reviewed as investigations progress and when full results are available.
In response to a notification of water pollution in Bantry today, Cork County Council staff have identified the source of pollution and the Council’s Environmental Department are working with the relevant parties to resolve the issue.
Cork County Council will shortly erect a sign to say that swimming is prohibited at the Abbey until the issue is resolved.
Following advice from the HSE the Advisory Notice for bathers placed at Garryvoe beach on the 4th of June 2019, due to elevated levels of bacteria, has been removed. Updated water quality results from samples taken on Wednesday 5th June indicates water quality at this bathing water has returned to Excellent quality.
Cork County Council can confirm that seven beaches across Cork County have been awarded Blue Flag status, with a further fourteen beaches receiving the Green Coast Award, for the 2019 bathing season, by the International Blue Flag and Green Coast Award Juries of An Taisce.

Red Strand is Green Flag Beach located in a horseshoe bay near Rosscarbery in County Cork. It is quite popular for surfing and has reasonably consistent surf all year round. The beach is accessible from the roadside, however there is no wheelchair access here and no designated car park. There are however a few spaces on the roadside where visitors can park.

Claycastle Beach is a gently sandy beach with a narrow area of marsh/dunes (part of Ballyvergan Marsh). Ballyvergan Marsh is located to the west of the beach.

Oysterhaven Beach is located in Ballinaclashet Creek approximately 6 km east of Kinsale, & 3.3 km south west of Nohaval, in Co. Cork. Oysterhaven Beach is a west facing sandy, shingle beach. The beach is located within Oysterhaven Bay which is a sheltered south facing inlet. The beach is flanked at both sides by low rocky cliffs.
