How You Can Get Involved
New members join through the Comhairle na nÓg Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is held every year in October in County Hall. Young people are invited from local schools and youth groups. The aim is to have as broad a representation of young people of the area as possible.
A number of AGM places are held for individuals who would like to attend outside of the school invitation process. For further information please email: Lorraine.hogan@corkcoco.ie
At the AGMs, a large number of local young people come together to discuss the issues that are of importance to them. New members for Comhairle are selected during the AGM. Comhairle meetings generally take place every three to four weeks where members research their topic and work to influence local decision makers.
The National Executive
One representative from each of the 31 Comhairlí na nÓg is elected to the Comhairle na nÓg National Executive, which follows up on the recommendations from Dáil na nÓg to make changes for young people in those areas.
The National Executive has a term of office of two years and meets once a month. The National Executive is facilitated and supported by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, Foróige and Youth Work Ireland, who ensure that they get the opportunity to engage with appropriate Ministers, policy-makers, Oireachtas Committees, and other decision-makers.
