The exhibition Reflect - a collection of new and old work by artist John Hales was formally opened last Friday 20th in LHQ Gallery by the Deputy Mayor of Cork County, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley.
John Hales, originally from Mallow, is a self taught painter in oils and acrylics.
The exhibition is a stunning collection of his early work, portraiture figurative work done in oils, and his latest work, large acrylic pieces with simple shapes, complex arrangements and bright colours.
“The biggest influencers of my current work are my daughters, Alex and Susie. Every day since they arrived, the various boxes of emotions have been pulled to the limit; suddenly more vulnerable, more anxious about the future world they will inherit; social media, bullying, teenage suicide statistics, hatred, war, idiot politicians, Co2 levels & rising seas, population increases and famine, teenage boys and video footage, but I can calm the anxiety, and instead focus on the excitement of parenting, the colour and vivid sharpness of existing with such amazing souls Painting has always allowed me to reflect”
The exhibition is open Monday – Friday 9am – 5.30pm in LHQ Gallery, Library Headquarters, Carrigrohane Road, Cork until Wednesday 15th August.
