With remote working at an all-time high, Cork County Council has launched a new initiative to identify existing employment skills and talent across Cork County and use this data to deliver further resources and create greater economic opportunities.

Under the Council’s Project ACT Activating County Towns, 23 newly formed Town Teams are working on individual plans for 23 County Cork towns to stimulate and support economic growth. A key part of this is the establishment of micro communities which will facilitate a ‘support local’ ethos of living and working within these towns. Cork County Council is also in the process of exploring the location of a number of digital hubs across the county to enable remote working with these towns with data collected from this initiative informing the location of these hubs.

Working with Cork County Council, Irish Startup Company Abodoo provide a dedicated remote working platform for individuals and businesses.  Their mapping technology will provide an ongoing live anonymised data analysis of the skills existing in Cork County, for those currently residing, the diaspora wishing to return, individuals wishing to relocate and businesses wishing to establish.

The platform will also act as a means of trying to establish the extent of those remotely working presently, as a means of assisting in establishing the longer term opportunities that this might present for towns and communities across Cork County

Members of the public are being asked to assist in the creation of the talent and remote working map by registering their skills set at www.abodoo.com/corkcounty.  Information provided in the project will not include any personally identifiable material and will capture key data points for remote and office working.

Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD commenting on Cork County Council’s initiative said,

“The rise of remote working is a silver lining of this crisis. In the past, I always got the impression that people liked the idea but there was still a lot of skepticism about how it would work in practice.  However, in the space of a few weeks, it has gone from being a foreign concept for businesses and workers to an everyday working reality.  I think that as we learn to adapt and operate alongside COVID-19, the message will be that if you can continue to do your job working remotely, keep doing it.  As we emerge from the crisis, this does not necessarily mean working from home 100% of the time. It’s about finding the right balance for everyone involved, between home-working, the use of local digital hubs and time in the office as needed.  Expanding our network of digital hubs has been a key priority for this Government. We now have a golden opportunity to embed remote working into our economy for good, which is why I continue to make the case for investment in this area into the future.”

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Ian Doyle noted how the last number of weeks have seen a complete shift in working arrangements,

“The Covid 19 pandemic has changed our lives in every way, the way we live and the way we work.  If we can identify where individuals want to work, we can ensure the supports they need exist in order to fulfill current requirements but also to future proof our way of working.  Project ACT is a key plan for our future success and I would encourage those working across Cork County to participate in the initiative so that we can get a full picture of the skills and talent of our most vital resource, our people.”

Speaking at the launch, artist Will Sliney, who has worked on many Marvel Comics projects from his home in Ballycotton said,

“As someone who already worked from home, I have known of the advantages for some time. That said, I have never felt more connected to my community as I have in recent weeks, as many others have realised the benefits for the first time. Our location is no longer a barrier to creativity. We have all found ways to build on what we have on our doorstep, and to use that for the wider good. I am very happy to support this initiative by Cork County Council and look forward to everyone who is working from home using that opportunity to achieve their full potential."

Chief Executive of Cork County Council Tim Lucey went on to say,

“Now is a time for us to act and for a project like this to come on stream.  Smart Working, or flexible working, is fast becoming a new normal. The growing importance of digital hubs as a means of spurring economic growth is a testament to this fact.  We’re asking the public to help us map the broad spectrum of skills that exist in Cork County, and the extent of remote working, and ensure Cork employers have access to the right people and skills for their job roles when the economy re-opens fully, for International businesses to consider locating here either physically or through remote-based opportunities and create significant employment prospects for those living in our 23 ACT towns.”

According to Abodoo CEO Vanessa Tierney,

“This project will give Cork County amazing insight to the skills that exist in the region across all industries and the demand for Smart Working. Ultimately having the latest data intelligence on wealth of skills will put the county in a strong position when attracting employers both in Ireland and internationally as the world embraces a new way of working.”

Abodoo captures over 50,000 skills and helps organisations identify their current and future talent, helping them better identify the talent they wish to attract and to be more informed about where they can start hiring more people if they wish to do so. The initial stages of the project will include an education and awareness campaign in digital and social media. The project has now been launched and Cork County residents are invited to register their skills at www.abodoo.com/corkcounty and follow the campaign on Social Media using the hashtag #corkproud.

Le cianobair ag an leibhéal is airde riamh, tá tionscnamh nua seolta ag Comhairle Contae Chorcaí chun na scileanna agus an tallann fostaíochta atá ann cheana a aithint ar fud Chontae Chorcaí agus na sonraí seo a úsáid chun tuilleadh acmhainní a sholáthar agus chun deiseanna eacnamaíocha níos mó a chruthú.

Faoi Thionscadal ACT na Comhairle - Bailte Contae a Ghníomhachtú, tá 23 Fhoireann Baile nuabhunaithe ag obair ar phleananna aonair do 23 baile i gContae Chorcaí chun fás eacnamaíoch a spreagadh agus tacú leis. Cuid lárnach de seo is ea micrea-phobail a bhunú a éascóidh éiteas ‘tacú go háitiúil’ le maireachtáil agus oibriú sna bailte seo. Tá Comhairle Contae Chorcaí i mbun iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar shuíomh roinnt mol digiteach ar fud an chontae chun cianobair a chumasú sna bailte seo le sonraí a bhailítear ón tionscnamh seo mar bhonn eolais faoi lonnú na moil seo.

Ag obair le Comhairle Contae Chorcaí, soláthraíonn gnólacht nuathionscanta na hÉireann Abodoo ardán tiomnaithe cianoibre do dhaoine aonair agus do ghnólachtaí. Soláthróidh a dteicneolaíocht mapála anailís bheo leanúnach anaithnidithe ar na scileanna atá ann i gContae Chorcaí, dóibh siúd a bhfuil cónaí orthu anseo fé láthair, an diaspóra ar mian leo filleadh, daoine aonair ar mian leo athlonnú agus gnólachtaí ar mian leo a bhunú.

Feidhmeoidh an t-ardán freisin mar bhealach chun iarracht a dhéanamh méid na ndaoine atá ag obair go cianda faoi láthair a aimsiú, mar bhealach chun cabhrú leis na deiseanna fadtéarmacha a bhunú a d’fhéadfadh sé seo a thabhairt do bhailte agus do phobail ar fud Chontae Chorcaí.

Iarrtar ar bhaill an phobail cabhrú chun mapa a chruthú de na daoine ag cianobair agus a dtallanna trína tacar scileanna a chlárú ag www.abodoo.com/corkcounty. Ní áireofar san fhaisnéis a sholáthraítear sa tionscadal aon ábhar inaitheanta pearsanta agus glacfaidh sé príomhphointí sonraí le haghaidh cianobair agus obair oifige.

Dúirt an tAire Gnó, Fiontar agus Nuálaíochta, Heather Humphreys TD agus í ag trácht ar thionscnamh Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí,

“Is é an t-ardú atá ar chianobair ná gealán dóchais na géarchéime seo. San am atá thart, bhíos ar an tuiscint i gcónaí gur thaitin an smaoineamh le daoine ach bhí go leor amhras ann fós faoin gcaoi a n-oibreodh sé go praiticiúil. Mar sin féin, le cúpla seachtain anuas, tá sé imithe ó bheith ina choincheap eachtrach do ghnólachtaí agus d’oibrithe go réaltacht oibre laethúil. Sílim, agus sinne ag foghlaim conas oiriúnú agus oibriú taobh le COVID-19, gurb í an teachtaireacht ná más féidir leat leanúint ar aghaidh ag déanamh do phost ag obair go cianda, coimeád ort á dhéanamh. Agus sinne ag teacht amach as an ngéarchéim, ní gá go gciallódh sé seo go n-oibreofaí ón mbaile 100% den am. Is éard atá i gceist leis ná cothromaíocht cheart a fháil do gach duine atá bainteach, idir obair ó bhaile, úsáid moil dhigiteacha áitiúla agus am san oifig de réir mar is gá.  Bhí sé mar phríomhthosaíocht ag an Rialtas seo ár líonra de mhoil dhigiteacha a leathnú. Tá deis órga againn anois cianobair a leabú inár ngeilleagar, agus sin an fáth go leanfaidh mé ag argóint ar son infheistíochta sa réimse seo sa todhchaí. "

Thug Méara Chontae Chorcaí, an Comhairleoir Ian Doyle faoi deara na slite a d’athraigh socruithe oibre le cúpla seachtain anuas,

“D’athraigh paindéim Covid 19 ár saol ar gach bealach, ar an mbealach ina mairimid agus ar an mbealach a oibrímid. Más féidir linn a aithint cá bhfuil daoine ag iarraidh obair, is féidir linn a chinntiú go bhfuil na tacaíochtaí a theastaíonn uathu ann chun na riachtanais reatha a chomhlíonadh ach freisin chun ár mbealach oibre a phromhadh sa todhchaí. Is príomhphlean é Tionscadal ACT le go n-éireoidh linn sa todhchaí agus mholfainn dóibh siúd atá ag obair ar fud Chontae Chorcaí páirt a ghlacadh sa tionscnamh ionas go bhféadfaimis pictiúr iomlán a fháil de scileanna agus tallann na hacmhainne is tábhachtaí atá againn, ár ndaoine. "

Ag labhairt dó ag an seoladh, dúirt an t-ealaíontóir Will Sliney, a d’oibrigh ar go leor tionscadal de chuid Marvel Comics óna theach cónaithe i mBaile an Chotáin,

“Mar dhuine a d’oibrigh ón mbaile cheana féin, tá a fhios agam fé na buntáistí le tamall anuas. É sin ráite, níor mhothaigh mé riamh níos mó nasc le mo phobal mar a bhí agam le seachtainí beaga anuas, mar thuig go leor eile na buntáistí den chéad uair. Níl an áit ina bhfuilimid lonnaithe ina bhac ar chruthaitheacht a thuilleadh. Tá bealaí aimsithe againn go léir chun tógáil ar a bhfuil againn ar leac an dorais againn, agus é sin a úsáid le haghaidh leasa níos leithne. Táim ana-shásta tacú leis an tionscnamh seo ag Comhairle Contae Chorcaí agus táim ag tnúth le gach duine atá ag obair ón mbaile ag úsáid an deis sin chun a lánacmhainneacht a bhaint amach. "

Dúirt Tim Lucey, Príomhfheidhmeannach Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí,

“Is tráth anois dúinn gníomhú agus tionscadal mar seo a chur ar bun. Tá Obair Chliste, nó obair sholúbtha, ag éirí go tapa mar ghnáthnós nua. Is fianaise ar an bhfíric seo an tábhacht mhéadaitheach atá ag moil dhigiteacha mar bhealach chun fás eacnamaíoch a spreagadh. Táimid ag iarraidh ar an bpobal cabhrú linn an speictream leathan scileanna atá i gContae Chorcaí a mhapáil, agus méid na cianoibrithe, agus a chinntiú go mbeidh rochtain ag fostóirí Chorcaí ar na daoine agus na scileanna cearta dá róil phoist nuair a athosclaíonn an geilleagar go hiomlán, chun gnólachtaí Idirnáisiúnta a mhealladh smaoineamh ar lonnú anseo go fisiciúil nó trí dheiseanna cianda agus ionchais fhostaíochta suntasacha a chruthú dóibh siúd atá ina gcónaí inár 23 baile ACT. "

Dar le POF Abodoo, Vanessa Tierney,

“Tabharfaidh an tionscadal seo léargas iontach do Chontae Chorcaí ar na scileanna atá ann sa réigiún ar fud na dtionscal go léir agus ar an éileamh ar Obair Chliste. I ndeireadh na dála, leis an bhfaisnéis sonraí is déanaí ar shaibhreas scileanna, cuirfidh sé an contae i riocht láidir agus fostóirí á mealladh in Éirinn agus go hidirnáisiúnta de réir mar a ghlacann an domhan le bealach nua oibre. "

Gabhann Abodoo os cionn 50,000 scil agus cabhraíonn sé le heagraíochtaí a gcuid tallann atá reathúil agus tallann sa todhchaí a aithint, ag cabhrú leo an tallann is mian leo a mhealladh a aithint níos fearr agus a bheith níos eolasaí fén áit ar féidir leo tosnú ag fostú níos mó daoine más mian leo é sin a dhéanamh. Cuimseoidh céimeanna tosaigh an tionscadail feachtas oideachais agus feasachta sna meáin dhigiteacha agus sóisialta. Tá an tionscadal seolta anois agus tugtar cuireadh d’áitritheoirí Chontae Chorcaí a gcuid scileanna a chlárú ag www.abodoo.com/corkcounty agus an feachtas ar na Meáin Shóisialta a leanúint ag úsáid an haischlib #corkproud.
