Cork County Council Library and Arts Service is proud to present 'BOLG: An Artist's Autopsy', an exhibition by Cork based artist, Paul Connell, recipient of the Cork County Council Emerging Solo Visual Artist Award for 2019.

Having graduated CIT Crawford College of Art and Design in 2019 with first class honours, Paul has gone on to receive a series of awards; having been selected for the RDS Visual Art Awards, exhibition showcases at the Lavitt Gallery and the James Barry Exhibition Centre, private commissions and purchases from Eli Lilly Kinsale and CIT and a residency with Enclave Review.

'BOLG: An Artist's Autopsy' includes a suite of new charcoal drawings and some earlier works including the award winning hand drawn animations 'the boy who ate the crocodile' (IndieCork Film festival 2018, the Undergraduate Awards 2018) and 'To Hell or to Connacht' (IndieCork Film festival 2019). BOLG continues the artist's contemporary mythopoeia as a response to and means to understand or resolve a relationship with national and personal heritage. Through cataloguing the body, interests in history and folklore collide with a keen study of anatomy as the viewer is led on a journey through the digestive system and indeed, through the legacies of what it means to be Irish today.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley commented;

“We welcome the opportunity to showcase Paul Connell’s work at our LHQ Gallery at County Library Headquarters. Cork County Council is committed to supporting emerging artists through this Artist Award Scheme and we hope that as many people as possible can come to view the exhibition and enjoy the work of this talented young artist.”

'BOLG: An Artist’s autopsy' runs in the LHQ Gallery at Cork County Hall for all of September 2020, subject to Covid 19 public health guidelines.
