N20 Mallow Southern Approach Overlay Scheme: N20 Blackrock Bridge Rehabilitation

Works on the Eastern bridge parapet are now complete and remedial works to the bridge deck on the south bound lane will be complete by the 05th March. Works on the remainder of the bridge deck will commence on the 08th of March. To safely facilitate the construction works on the remainder of the bridge deck will require a stop / go traffic management system to be implemented for a three-week period. The TM details are as follows:

Traffic Management:
From the 08th of March for a three-week period a stop / go system will be implemented from 0630hrs to 1930hrs with a traffic light system in operation overnight. The stop / go system will be manually operated from 0630hrs to 1930hrs Monday to Saturday. A traffic light system will be in operation at all other times. Upon completion of the remedial works to the bridge deck and resurfacing to binder level, the traffic management will be returned to two way on the 26th of March. The footpath will remain closed to all through traffic during this period.

Final works which include ducting, kerbing and installation of new footpaths will be undertaken in April prior to the laying of the final wearing course on the carriageway. Further traffic restrictions including night time diversions will be required to complete the final wearing course, details of which will be circulated closer to the time. Substantial completion of the overlay and bridge rehabilitation scheme is anticipated by Mid-May 2021. This is based on no further Covid 19 restrictions or other constraints, and therefore may be subject to change.

We would appreciate your understanding of what are necessary restrictions and we will endeavour to expedite the construction times and complete the works as soon as possible.

Works Description:
The type of work involved includes the removal of failed sections of pavement, subsequent strengthening of these sections and resurfacing with bituminous macadam.

Works also include storm water drainage, new footpaths and kerbs, Central Islands, Bridge rehabilitation works including replacement of existing Parapet, installation of a new Vehicle Restraint System, tree surgery, traffic signs and road markings and traffic management.
