National Heritage Week 2022Macroom Workshop

As part of National Heritage Week 2022, a workshop will be held at St Colman’s Church Macroom (former Church of Ireland building) to showcase the sensitive works taking place on this building of significant historic and heritage value.

Under the Historic Towns Initiative 2022 this building is receiving funding towards necessary works to save the building from falling into further disrepair.  These works are planned as part of a larger project for the sensitive restoration and the future return of this building to active use for the community.

This event will be hosted by Cork County Council’s Architects’ Department, Macroom Municipal District and in conjunction with the Heritage Unit and will be held on Tuesday 16th August 2022 at the location with the workshop commencing at 11.00 am.  It is anticipated that this workshop will run for approx. 1 hr 30 mins and will involve the following participants:

  • Raymond Higgins, Snr Exec Architect, CCC & Project Manager
  • Oisín Creagh, Conservation Architect, Design Forum Architects
  • Dan Noonan, Archaeologist, DNAC
  • David Higgins, Specialist Contractor, Queenstown Restoration

This event will be officially launched by Cllr Martin Coughlan, deputising for the Mayor of the County of Cork and will be followed by a number of talks:

  • Update on the Project and future plans for the building by Ray Higgins
  • History of the building and the approach for these works by Oisín Creagh
  • Sensitivity of works to historic buildings by Dan Noonan
  • Practical demonstration on mixing lime and sensitive repairs to the building
