Cork County Council has received approximately 761 incident calls, primarily in relation to fallen trees.
As of yesterday evening, a total number of 35 no. Blockages were reported on regional roads across the county. This figure has now reduced to 6. The following are the affected roads:
R627 Broomfield East, Midleton
R613 Ballea Road, Carrigaline
R597 Glandore
R612 Drakes Pool, Crosshaven
R590 Crookstown to Bandon
R605 Innishannon to Dunderrow
R880 Western Road, Clonakilty
The number of local roads that remain impassable has reduced considerably during the course of the day. There are currently approx 70 no. local roads that remain closed. The Council is confident that quite a number of these roads will open before nightfall this evening.
Cork County Council has deployed all available resources to assist in the clean up effort. Over 300 staff, 60 tree surgeons and 16 of our 21 Fire Stations have been involved in the clean up. Crews have been working since first light this morning and will continue to operate until nightfall tonight.
Cork County Council can confirm that water supplies have been restored this afternoon in Kinsale, Bandon and Charleville. Significant damage has occurred at Youghal which ESB Networks are working to restore. Generators are being installed this evening to assist with continuity of water supply in both Youghal and Cobb.
There are a number of small Water Supply Schemes without power throughout the county. Water will be restored on a priority basis. Cork County Council is in discussion with Irish Water for alternative supplies where power cannot be restored in the short term. Reports suggest that 40 no. Cork County Council houses suffered minor structural damage due to the storm. Contractors have been deployed straightaway to carry out urgent repairs on these properties.
The Regional Park in Ballincollig has been significantly impacted - Council staff have recorded 60 no. Fallen trees and, as a consequence, it is likely that the Park will be closed for at least a week in order to deal with the problem.
Youghal Pool will be closed indefinitely due to serious structural damage. 15 Council offices are currently affected by network issues. Should members of the public have difficulty contacting any council office, please contact our incident line on 021 4800048.
Cork County Council has carried out an assessment on the Dursey Cable Car. It is likely to reopen at some stage tomorrow. Inspections have also been carried out on coastal infrastructure, pontoons and piers.
Cork County Fire Service attended 46 incidents including 6 Road Traffic Collisions and assisted 3 people from their homes.
Over 90,000 customers suffered power supply loss in Cork as a result of storm Ophelia with 74,000 still affected. ESB networks are working to restore supply as soon as possible.
