A tidal surge coinciding with high tides is expected to occur tomorrow evening, at 6.00pm approximately. This has the potential to cause tidal flooding across low lying areas in Bantry, Clonakilty, Youghal and Midleton.
Cork County Council will have sand bags available at Council depots for these four areas from tomorrow morning.
Met Éireann has issued an Orange Weather Warning. West to Southwest winds veering Northwest will reach mean speeds 65-80 km/h with gusts 110-130 km/h in coastal parts of Munster and coastal parts of Wexford with the risk of coastal flooding. This warning is valid from 00:01 Saturday 21-October-2017 until 12:00 Saturday 21-October-2017.
In light of the imminent wind warning, Cork County Council asks members of the public to avoid coastal areas, exercise extreme caution in relation to trees/structures that may have been affected by storm Ophelia.
We also request landowners to check trees on roadside boundaries which may have been affected by storm Ophelia and could pose a risk.
Road users are urged to be aware overhanging tree limbs, surface water, remaining debris etc while drains and gullies continue to be cleared by Council crews.
At this time, 2 regional roads remain impassable. The R579 Midleton to Dungourney is expected to open tomorrow. Over 20 trees fell on this stretch of road and 2 Council crews are working to clear. The R597 Glandore is also impassable but local diversions are available.
Council crews are continuing to clear the R602 Bandon which is passable but delays may occur.
Clearing of local roads continues; however some require the ESB to initially deal with cables and may not reopen for a few days.
Tankers and static tanks are available at a number of locations throughout the county which continue to be affected by water supply interruptions.
