The EPA have advised on that marine algal blooms have been noted along the S. East and S. West coasts of Ireland, there has been reporting’s along Dunmanus Bay and Bantry Bay.

These can be confused with sewage pollution but are not toxic to humans though best avoided. As they decay they can cause a strong smell.

The Marine Institute have also advised they are a non-toxic harmless species of algae called Noctiluca which bioluminescent at night, they will be updating their website on with further information.
