Status Orange Weather Alert

This update is being issued by Cork County Council's Crisis Management Team. The team convened at 12:00 noon and the following is the current position with respect to Cork County:

A STATUS ORANGE weather warning has issued for southeast winds veering southwest with gusts generally between 100 and 130km/h, higher in some coastal areas and on high ground. Along with a spell of heavy rain and high tides there is a risk of coastal flooding and damage. This warning comes into force on 11 October 2018 22:00 and is valid up to Friday 12 October 2018 09:00.

We are asking road users and all members of the public to exercise due caution and expect the unexpected during the current weather event. There may be potential debris and surface water on the roads during and after this event.

The Crisis Management Team has reviewed and will continue to review the key risk areas and has put plans in place.

Due to the potential risk of some coastal flooding sandbags will be made available at the following council depots from 3pm – 5pm today in Youghal & Midleton. They are available in Bantry at The Square and at New Street.

Members of the public who wish to report issues/incidents should do so as follows:

From 5:00pm today, Thursday 11th October until 12:00 noon tomorrow, Friday, 12th October emergency issues should be reported to (021) 4800048. In the event of disruption to water supplies, persons should contact Irish Water at 1850278278.
