West Cork business awards

Cork County Council is delighted to partner with The Southern Star and AIB to launch the West Cork Business & Tourism Awards 2018. The aim is to recognise the best businesses and business people in the region and to promote the vibrant west Cork community.

There are eleven award categories that businesses can enter free of charge:


  1. Best Marketing Campaign/Initiative
  2. Best New Business
  3. Best Not for Profit Organisation
  4. Best use of Social Media/Digital
  5. Best Customer Service
  6. Best Artisan Food Producer
  7. Best Small to Medium Enterprise


8. Best West Cork Festival
9. Best Tourism Marketing
10. Outstanding West Cork Tourism Experience
11. Best Unique Small Tourism Business

Three finalists per category will be shortlisted, and have the opportunity to win the judges over at a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch night. The winners will be announced at a black tie Gala event in November.

There will be a special Mayor’s Award for ‘Outstanding West Cork Business Ambassador’ which will be awarded to an individual who the judges deem to have made a significant and extraordinary contribution to business life in West Cork

The Mayor welcomed the awards, saying,

“Being a West Cork man, it is great to be celebrating business excellence here, where the participants are outstanding ambassadors for the area. These awards emphasise the importance of supporting and highlighting the people & businesses that allow West Cork fulfil its true potential in both business and tourism.”

Chief Executive Tim Lucey applauded the awards, stating,

“Community Development and Local Enterprise is at the heart of our mission in Cork County Council promoting enterprise and enriching communities. The West Cork Business and Tourism Awards are a great way to celebrate this work. We are delighted to be headline partner with the Southern Star for these awards”.

This is a pilot program for Cork County Council, who are hoping to launch similar awards in other parts of the County. Businesses can get more information and apply online at

Application forms will also be available from August 29th  at the Local Enterprise Office, Kent Street, Clonakility, in AIB branches throughout West Cork, the Southern Star front office in Skibbereen and from Cork County Council's Libraries in the West Cork area.
