Cork County Council Wins Prestigous European Road Safety Award

A virtual reality initiative, developed by Cork County Council, which simulates what it is like to be a passenger in a fatal crash has won a major European award. The Council’s virtual reality ‘Your Life - Your Choice’ education programme has received gold at the Excellence in Road Safety Awards 2021 in Brussels.

Clár 2021 Innovation Measure

Cork County Council is delighted to receive funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development, under the CLÁR 2021 Scheme for Innovation Measures.  Support from this initiative will be used for the purchase of a drone to be used by Area Engineers in the West Cork Municipal District to survey inaccessible areas.

€1.95M Kanturk Link Road Completed

Cork County Council Project to Take a Closer Look at Cork’s Heritage Monuments

Cork County Council has launched a new project to audit and record memorials across the county as part of the Decade of Centenaries programme. The project aims to enhance knowledge of the revolutionary period in Cork from 1912 to 1923 and create a powerful resource to interpret how events of a century ago have been remembered ever since. Mac Conmara Heritage Consultants, experts in the fields of heritage, commemoration and oral history have been appointed by Cork County Council’s Commemorations Committee to carry out the project.

Cork County Council’s Inniscarra Laboratory prepares for Science Week

To mark Science Week 2021, Cork County Council has produced a series of videos on the Council’s YouTube Channel revealing the science behind the work that scientists and technical staff in the Council undertake. Scientists from the Council’s laboratory in Inniscarra will also be hosting Zoom calls with Primary Schools to discuss the importance of science in day to day life and how scientific work benefits communities in Cork County.

The Completion of the Clonakilty Flood Relief Scheme Celebrated

Patrick O’Donovan, T.D., Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), today visited Clonakilty to mark the completion of the Clonakilty Flood Relief Scheme together with the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Gillian Coughlan, three years after construction works began. They were joined at a ceremony in the old town centre by Cllr. Joe Carroll, Chair of the Municipal Council for West Cork, OPW Chairman Maurice Buckley, members of the local Business Association, and by staff from the OPW, engineering consultants Mott MacDonald and contractors Ward & Burke Ltd, who delivered the design and construction of the scheme respectively.
