Cork County Council signs up to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan

Cork County Council has today formally signed up to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan (AIPP). Getting on board with this ambitious five-year roadmap to help bees and nature is further evidence of the Council’s commitment to playing a leading role in making its land more pollinator friendly.

County Cork Alerts is now offering bathing water quality alerts for the 26 beaches in the county

County Cork Alerts is now offering bathing water quality alerts for the 26 beaches in the county which are part of our bathing water monitoring program. 14 of these are Identified Bathing Waters, 10 of which are Blue Flag beaches. In addition, there are 13 Green Coast Flag Beaches. These alerts include bathing water quality results which are generally provided fortnightly during the summer bathing season and also any bathing restrictions if and when they are notified. The alerts are provided from data supplied by the EPA of monitoring carried out by the Council.

A Record 23 Flags Awarded Cork County Beaches

Cork County beaches have been awarded a total of 23 flags by An Taisce at the National Awards for 2021. In all, 10 Blue Flags and 13 Green Coast Flags were won, for beaches that achieve consistently excellent water quality as well as meeting beach infrastructure standards. In addition, Kinsale Marina and Royal Cork Yacht Club Marina retained their Blue Flag Status, while Inchydoney East beach has achieved its first Blue Flag this year, joining Inchydoney West beach which has held its flag continuously since 1993.

County Cork Town’s Embark on Pollinator Plans

Following the successful development of a Pollinator Plan for Midleton, Cork County Council has commenced the roll out of Pollinator Plans for the towns of Carrigaline, Kinsale, Bantry, Macroom, Kanturk and Fermoy, with community workshops hosted by ecologist Tony Nagle.

Unsettled Weather and Highest Astronomical Tides for Cork – Update 15/12/2020 4.00PM

Met Eireann have issued a status Orange Wind Warning valid from 21.00 tonight, (Tuesday) to 09.00 tomorrow (Wednesday).  Due to high seas, as a result of high astronomical Spring Tides approaching Highest Astronomical Tide, and strong onshore winds, there is a risk of coastal flooding tonight and on Wednesday. Gale force southeast winds, veering southwest gusting 90 to 110km/h generally, higher in exposed areas, have been forecasted.

Cork County Council has launched the 8th instalment of its heritage publication series “The Archaeological Heritage of County Cork”. This publication draws from the wealth of knowledge of community groups countywide, whose submissions were assembled and enriched by the expertise of the former Director of the Cork Archaeological Survey, Denis Power.
