Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn welcomed the Cork Under 20 hurling team to a civic reception at Cork County Hall today to celebrate their triumphant victory against Offaly in the All-Ireland final.

The final, which took place on the 4th of June at Semple Stadium in Thurles, was not only the first ever All-Ireland final meeting between the two teams, but it was also their first ever championship meeting.

Cork were strong favourites and despite being under some pressure in the first half, rallied to victory to win the match 2-22 to 3-13 and claim their 14th championship title overall and a first title in two years.
Speaking at the reception, the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Frank O’Flynn paid tribute to the team saying

The success of our Cork Under 20 All Ireland Hurling Champions serves as a testament to their hard work, commitment and unwavering determination. Cork has always had a rich history in hurling, and the recent success of our Under 20 team exemplifies the talent and dedication which continues to flourish in our county.
