Children are invited to visit their local branch or mobile library to collect a Summer Stars registration pack and reading card to kickstart their reading adventure. Whether on a magical quest, solving a mystery, time travelling through history, or learning about other places and people, each book is a new adventure!

Launching the 2023 programme, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Danny Collins said

I am delighted to announce the much-anticipated return of the Summer Stars reading adventure in our branch and mobile libraries. Summer Stars offers an enjoyable way for children to maintain their reading skills throughout the summer while discovering the pleasure of reading, whether it be through a library book or eBook. Our Library and Arts Service is committed to nurturing a love for literature and empowering young minds through the magic of storytelling.

Summer Stars is part of the national Right to Read programme that aims to promote literacy and reading development for people of all ages and backgrounds. Registration is free of charge, and each child who takes part will receive a certificate of achievement at the end of the summer.

A programme of events and activities from Cork County Council’s Arts Office, including arts & crafts, music, and writing workshops for children will run in conjunction with Summer Stars.
