Cork County Council seeks applications for a Heritage Specialist. The Heritage Specialist will work 
In Cork County to promote and engage people in local history, heritage, research, and so on. They will develop a project that engages local communities and non-academic audiences. The Heritage Specialist will work closely with Cork County Council’s Creative Ireland Office; Heritage Office; The Local Studies Department; and the Arts Office.

This is a Contract for Service over 12 months commencing October 2023.

Funding:
The residency fee is valued at €14,400 inclusive of all expenses. Funding for the residency is provided through Creative Ireland, and Cork County Council.

Brief: Heritage Specialist  
The candidate will be responsible for working with and under the direction of the Council’s Creative Ireland Office (and staff of the Heritage Office and Local Studies Section, as so designated) to:
•   Promote interest in and active engagement with local history and heritage among a non-academic audience. 
•   Promote excellence in local research by utilising and promoting the collections and resources of the Cork County Council Library Local Studies services.
•   Develop several public events in conjunction with members of local communities that animate and enhance appreciation of local cultural heritage.
•   Link activities with national awareness events such as, for example, National Biodiversity Week (May); National Heritage Week (August) and National Hedgerow Week (September), as well as Culture Night (September).  
•   Create a programme which takes due consideration of inclusion, diversity, and access.

The Heritage Specialist will be supported by the Cork County Council Culture Team and Library & Arts Service staff. The Heritage Specialist may collaborate across the different programmes and activities of the Library, Arts and Heritage Services, working closely with the wider Culture and Creativity team to develop ideas and projects. The Heritage Specialist will abide by relevant Cork County Council policies and guidelines and operate by said polices and guidelines.

1.  Application Procedure

•   A written submission of interest (500 words maximum) responding to the brief, which outlines a potential approach to this role, including possible areas of interest. Please also refer to and include information as per the selection criteria listed.
•   An up-to-date CV, including the names and contact details of two professional references. 
•   A cover letter outlining any examples of relevant work in the area of youth creativity/socially engaged creative practice, and where this intersects with Heritage.  

2.  Selection Criteria for Heritage Specialist in Residence
The ideal person for this role should have:
•   A minimum FETAC Level 7 qualification in History/ Heritage Studies/ (Qualifications in other possibly unrelated areas will be considered)
•   Proven track record/achievement in heritage studies and/or public engagement in a heritage context. 
•   Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work with a wide cross-section of the local community. 
•   Possess relevant skills including IT competencies and knowledge of online communications processes. 
•   Demonstrate a creative and/or community-centred approach to the delivery of the Heritage Specialist programme, with a strong passion for equality and inclusion.
•   Possess a full valid driver’s licence and the capacity to travel as part of the Role.
