Baseline Income Thresholds for Social Housing Support Applicants Being Increased for All Local Authorities
The Social Housing Assessment (Amendment) (No.3) Regulations 2022 have resulted in the baseline income thresholds for social housing support applicants being increased for all local authorities with effect from 1st January 2023.
The new income eligibility threshold for a single person applying to Cork County Council has now increased from €30,000 to €35,000. The increased allowances of 5% for each adult household member (subject to a maximum of 10%) and 2.5% for each child (no maximum) are not changing.
The revised thresholds for sample household compositions are set out in the table below:
- Single Adult: €35,000
- 2 Adults - €36,750
- 1 Adult +1 Child - €35,875
- 1 Adult +2 Children - €36,750
- 2 Adults +1 Child - €37,625
- 2 Adults and 3 Children - €39,375
- 3 Adults +4 Children - €42,000
Applications assessed and decided upon prior to the 1st January 2023 which were deemed to exceed the current thresholds but which may meet the new income thresholds, can be resubmitted by applicants.
In the interests of fairness, any such applicants removed from the social housing waiting list between 18 November 2021 and 31 December 2022 for exceeding income limits but who would now qualify under the new thresholds, can retain the time already accrued or which would have accrued had they remained on the waiting list. These arrangements will remain in place until 30 June 2023.
