Temporary Closing of Public Roads

CORK COUNTY COUNCIL

ROADS ACT, 1993

Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, notice is hereby given that Cork County Council proposes to temporarily close the following road for the period and reason specified below: 

Road Subject of Proposed Closure

L-4607-55 Carrigdangan to Johnstown, Co. Cork.

Period of Proposed Closure 

From 07:00hrs to 20:00hrs (Daily Closure) on Monday 14th August 2023 to Monday 21st August 2023.

Reason for Proposed Closure

To facilitate Road Resurfacing.

Alternative Routes

Southbound Traffic:  Follow the L-8527 east to junction with R-587.  Follow the R-587 south to R-585 at Glaun.  Follow the R-585 south west to its junction with L-4607 at Inchincurca. 

The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

Local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the Road Closure. 

Objections to this proposed temporary road closure should be made in writing, to the undersigned, quoting Ref: TRC-126-2023, not later than 5.00pm on Wednesday 12th July 2023.  Telephone contact details should be included in the objection.

Roads Subject of Proposed Closure

“Phase 1” Road Closure: L-2050-0(Part) - Weirs Street, Bandon, Co. Cork – (from the South Main Street Junction to the Garda Station), L-2021-31 (Part) Ballymodan/South Main Street (from Market Street Junction to the southern entrance of Ballymodan Car Park).

“Phase 2 & 3” Road Closure: L-2021-31(Part) - Ballymodan/South Main Street, Bandon, Co. Cork – (from Weir Street Junction to the southern entrance of Ballymodan Car Park).

Period of Proposed Closure 

From 07:00 hrs on Tuesday 8th of August 2023 to 19:00hrs on Friday 29th of September 2023.  (24hr Closure)

Reason for Proposed Closure

To facilitate footway and road pavement upgrades under Bandon TPREP.

Alternative Routes

“Phase 1”:

Southbound:  Traffic intending to travel southwards on Weir Street by the Garda Station junction, shall divert west along the shopping centre to O’Mahony Avenue Junction, then turn left on to L-2021-31, turn right onto Chapel Street(L-2026-0), follow the road to the junction near the Grotto, turn left onto N71-1001, at the mini roundabout take the 1st exit onto New Road(R603-0), follow the road onto St Finbarr’s Place and Market Street junction with South Main Street to approach the closed road from the opposite side.

North/Westbound:  Traffic at Market Street junction intending to traverse the road closure, shall divert east along South Main Street(R603-0) and Pearse Street, turn left onto St Finbarr’s Place(R603-0 & R586-0), turn left onto McSwiney Quay (L-2050-0), follow the fore mention diversion on Weir Street from the Garda Station junction along the route.

Local and business access to Weir Street Cul de Sac to be maintained where road widths allow vehicle to turn.

“Phase 2 & 3”.

Traffic intending to traverse eastbound along Ballymodan and South Main Street road closure, shall divert right at Chapel Street junction(L-2026-0) and follow the forementioned diversion for phase 1 southwards of this point to Market Street/South Main Street junction. 

The stated diversion is applicable in reverse when traveling in the opposite direction from the South Main Street/ Market Street junction.

It is anticipated that Weir Street will be one-way southbound during Phase 2&3 of the road closure to accommodate other works also in the locus.

Access to Ballymodan Car Park will be maintained for all phases of the road closure
