TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PUBLIC ROADS

Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, notice is hereby given that Cork County Council proposes to temporarily close the following roads for the period and reason specified below:

IRONMAN Ireland Cork Event 2022

Thursday 11th August 2022 – Monday 15th August 2022

(A) YOUGHAL TOWN AND ENVIRONS

(A1) Roads Subject of Proposed Closure

R634-12 (Part) Back Street, Youghal from its junction with O’Neill Crowley Street to its junction with Friar Street.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 18:00hrs on Thursday 11th August 2022 to 06:00hrs on Monday 15th August 2022 (24hr closure).

Alternative Routes

O’Neill Crowley Street, Main Street, Cork Hill, New Line to Summerfield Cross.  Note this alternative route will only be available until 04:00hrs Saturday 13th August 2022.

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available and on street parking will not be permitted.

   

(A2) Roads Subject of Proposed Closure

R634-16 (Part) South Abbey and Lighthouse Hill from its junction with Friar Street to its junction with the R908-0 at Moll Goggins Corner.  

R634-14 (Part) South Main Street and North Main Street to its junction with O’Neill Crowley Street.  

Period of Proposed Closure

From 09:00hrs on Friday 12th August 2022 to 23:45hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (24hr closure).

Alternative Routes

From Cork travelling along the R634 turn left onto the L3810 at Summerfield Cross.  Continue to Lower Cork Hill to join North Main Street turning left towards Dungarvan or turning right to the Town Centre.  This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  Note this alternative route will only be available until 04:00hrs Saturday 13th August 2022.

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available and on street parking will not be permitted.

(A3) Roads Subject of Proposed Closure

R634-10, R634-12, R634-14 and R634-16 (Part) from its junction at the roundabout with the N25 at Rincrew through Youghal Town Centre (Main Street and Back Street) to its junction with the Golf Links Road; L-3824-0 Dolphin Square; L-9517-0 Church Lane, Emmett Place and Ashe Street; L-3823-0 Windmill Hill; L-3822-2 and L-3822-3 Golf Links Road; L-3826-0 O’Rahilly Street; Barrys Lane; Nealons Quay; L9500-0 and L9500-3 Copperalley.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 04:00hrs on Saturday 13th August 2022 to 23:45hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (24hr closure).

Alternative Routes

No Alternative Route available.  Access to the upper town areas from N25 at Clashadonna.  

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available and on street parking will not be permitted.

(B) YOUGHAL TO GARRYVOE

R634-16, R634-19, R634-20 from junction with Golf Links Road to Kennel; R633-0, R633-31 from Kennel through Beanfield, Ballymadog, Clonpriest and Aghavine to Aghavine Cross.   L3815-49 from its junction with the R633 at Aghavine Cross; R633-67 from its junction with the L3815-49 to Gortavadda; L3816-0 (Part) (Ballymacoda Road) from its junction with the R633 at Gortavadda to its junction with the L3819-65; L3819-65, L3819-47, L-3819-17 and L-3819-0 (Part) Coast Road from its junction with the L3816-0 (Knockadoon Road) to its junction with the L3815-0 (Garryvoe Townland); L7879-0 and L7899-0 to Garryvoe.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 06:00hrs to 09:30hrs on Saturday 13th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

From 06:30hrs to 15:00hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

Alternative Routes

No Alternative Route available to Ballymacoda/Knockadoon, Ballypherode and Mountcotton areas.  Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available. A local access crossing point to Redbarn will be available at Beanfield Cross Roads.

(C) GARRYVOE, CLOYNE, SALEEN, MIDLETON

R632-55 (Part) and R-632-89 from Garryvoe to Shanagarry; R629-98 from Shanagarry to Ballymaloe Beg; R629-59 from Ballymaloe Beg to Cloyne; R631-0 Cloyne to Whitewell Cross; R630-34 from Whitewell Cross to Saleen (Southbound only): L3629-72, L3629-0, R-630-0 from Saleen, through East Ferry, Rathcoursey to Bawnard Cross; R630-0 from Bawnard Cross to Ballinacurra; L3621-0 (Bailick Road and Broderick Street); R907-0 (Part) Main Street between Broderick Street and The Gyratory; R627-0 Connolly Street and Dungourney Road to Broomfield Junction.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 06:30hrs to 10:45hrs on Saturday 13th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

From 07:00hrs to 16:00hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

Alternative Routes

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available other than as follows and on street parking will not be permitted:

•    To/from Garryvoe Beach and Hotel approaching on the R632 from Ladysbridge – follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána. 

•    To/from Ballymaloe and Barnabrow approaching from the L3818 and L3630 - follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána.

•    One way traffic southbound will be maintained on Bailick Road from Father Murphy Place/Riverside Estate to The Dark Road.

•    Local access to Riverside Way from The Gyratory.

Alternative route to/from Ballycotton and Churchtown: Travelling north on the R629-127  Ballycotton Road follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána at the race Crossing Point to access L7881-0 School Road Shanagarry; continue to the L3818-27 to the R632 at Garryvoe Cross Roads (Mullins X).  This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  Expect Delays at the Crossing Point. 

Alternative route to/from Rostellan, Aghada and Whitegate areas: Travelling south on the R630 Whitegate Road, divert onto the R629 via Ballinacurra to Cloyne; L3633 to Churchtown; L3638 to Coolbea Cross; L7668, L7670, L3651 to Lower Whitewell and rejoin the R630. Follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána at the race Crossing Point in Cloyne.  Expect Delays at the Crossing Point.  Travelling north on the R630 Whitegate Road as far as Bawnard Cross, turn right onto the L3629-0 to Bowles Gate, turn left onto the R629-1 to Ballinacurra and rejoin the R630.  Follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána at the race Crossing Point at Saleen. Expect Delays at the Crossing Point.  

Alternative route for Midleton Main Street:  Travelling on the R626 from Lisgoold to Lower Main Street detour on the Northern Relief Road to the N25 to the Youghal Road. This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  

(D) MIDLETON TO MURLEYS CROSS 

Road Subject of Proposed Closure

R-627-92 and R-627-129 from Broomfield Junction through Dungourney to Murley’s Cross.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 07:30hrs to 11:30hrs on Saturday 13th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

From 07:45hrs to 17:00hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

Alternative Routes

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available.  

Local Crossing Points will be available at Ballynacole and Ballyeightragh and in Dungourney.  Follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána.  Expect Delays at the local Crossing Points.  HGV vehicles travelling between Castlelyons and Mogeely are advised to travel via the Castlelyons Midleton Road to Midleton/N25 to Castlemartyr and turn at the traffic lights for Mogeely.  This advisory route is also applicable in the reverse direction. 

Alternative route from Midleton to Dungourney: Travel east on the N25 to Castlemartyr, turn left at the lights, continue on the L3805 through Mogeely to Dungourney.  This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  

Alternative route from Midleton to Tallow: Travel east on the N25 to Rincrew Roundabout, take the first exit, continue on the R634 to Tallow.  This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  

(E) MURLEYS CROSS TO YOUGHAL

Roads Subject of Proposed Closure

L-3802-0, L-3802-31, L-3802-50 Murleys X to Mount Uniacke; L-3803-35 Mount Uniacke to Inch; L-3808-0 and L-3808-31, L-3808-63, and L-3807-57 Inch to Quarry Road Youghal.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 07:45hrs to 12:30hrs on Saturday 13th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

From 08:00hrs to 17:30hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

Alternative Routes

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available.  

A local Crossing Point will be available at Ballyre Cross – follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána.  Expect Delays at the local Crossing Point.  Access to Inch Church via Barnaviddane.

To facilitate Road Strengthening

Alternative Routes

Traffic travelling from Boherbue to Kiskeam Village/Ballydesmond will divert right at Horgan’s Cross onto the L-1036 signposted Kanturk. Continue on the L-1036 to Keelnahulla Cross and turn left onto the L-1035 signposted Rockchapel. Continue on the L1035 to Glash bridge and turn left onto the R578 signposted Ballydesmond.  Continue on the R578 to Clamper Cross and traffic travelling to Ballydesmond will continue straight on R578. Traffic travelling to Kiskeam will turn left at Clamper cross onto the L-1032 signposted Kiskeam. Continue on the L-1032 to Kiskeam Bridge and rejoin the R577.

The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

Traffic travelling from Newmarket to Ballydesmond (R578) - At Glash Bridge turn left onto L-1035 signposted Boherbue. Continue on L-1035 to Keenahulla Cross and turn right onto the L-1036 signposted Kiskeam. Continue on the L-1036 to Horgan’s Cross and turn right onto the R577 signposted Kiskeam. Continue on the R577 through Kiskeam Village and onto Ballydesmond. 

The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

From 08.30hrs to 18.00hrs (Daily Closure) from Monday 25th July 2022 to Friday 29th July 2022.

Reason for Proposed Closure

To facilitate Road Resurfacing.

Alternative Routes

Traffic travelling east:  At Glaun divert onto the R-587 and travel north through Kilmichael, Dromcarra and Toons Bridge.  At Harnetts Cross take the N22 east to Crookstown.   Alternatively, on the R-585 at Boxers Cross, follow the L-2004, L-2003 and L2002 through Kilmurry and north to the N22.

The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

Local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the Road Closure.

This closure will take place in sequence with TRC-114-2022 – “R-590 Crookstown to Carrigeen” but both roads will not be closed at the same time.

To facilitate Road Strengthening Works. 

Alternative Routes

Traffic approaching on N20 will be diverted Northwards on the N20 to the Churchtown junction (Level Crossing) and traffic will take a left onto L1320 and continue into Churchtown village.  In Churchtown village, traffic is to go left onto the L1321 and continue on Buffers Cross onto the R522.  End of Diversion. 

The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

Local access may be given to dwellings east of road closure for access during works if required.

Alternative route to/from Rostellan, Aghada and Whitegate areas: Travelling south on the R630 Whitegate Road, divert onto the R629 via Ballinacurra to Cloyne; L3633 to Churchtown; L3638 to Coolbea Cross; L7668, L7670, L3651 to Lower Whitewell and rejoin the R630. Follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána at the race Crossing Point in Cloyne.  Expect Delays at the Crossing Point.  Travelling north on the R630 Whitegate Road as far as Bawnard Cross, turn right onto the L3629-0 to Bowles Gate, turn left onto the R629-1 to Ballinacurra and rejoin the R630.  Follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána at the race Crossing Point at Saleen. Expect Delays at the Crossing Point.  

Alternative route for Midleton Main Street:  Travelling on the R626 from Lisgoold to Lower Main Street detour on the Northern Relief Road to the N25 to the Youghal Road. This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  

(D) MIDLETON TO MURLEYS CROSS 

Road Subject of Proposed Closure

R-627-92 and R-627-129 from Broomfield Junction through Dungourney to Murley’s Cross.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 07:30hrs to 11:30hrs on Saturday 13th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

From 07:45hrs to 17:00hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

Alternative Routes

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available.  

Local Crossing Points will be available at Ballynacole and Ballyeightragh and in Dungourney.  Follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána.  Expect Delays at the local Crossing Points.  HGV vehicles travelling between Castlelyons and Mogeely are advised to travel via the Castlelyons Midleton Road to Midleton/N25 to Castlemartyr and turn at the traffic lights for Mogeely.  This advisory route is also applicable in the reverse direction. 

Alternative route from Midleton to Dungourney: Travel east on the N25 to Castlemartyr, turn left at the lights, continue on the L3805 through Mogeely to Dungourney.  This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  

Alternative route from Midleton to Tallow: Travel east on the N25 to Rincrew Roundabout, take the first exit, continue on the R634 to Tallow.  This alternative route is also applicable in the reverse direction.  

(E) MURLEYS CROSS TO YOUGHAL

L-3802-0, L-3802-31, L-3802-50 Murleys X to Mount Uniacke; L-3803-35 Mount Uniacke to Inch; L-3808-0 and L-3808-31, L-3808-63, and L-3807-57 Inch to Quarry Road Youghal.

Period of Proposed Closure

From 07:45hrs to 12:30hrs on Saturday 13th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

From 08:00hrs to 17:30hrs on Sunday 14th August 2022 (Daily Closure).

Alternative Routes

Local vehicular access along the roads closed will not be available.  

A local Crossing Point will be available at Ballyre Cross – follow directions of Traffic Marshals and An Garda Síochána.  Expect Delays at the local Crossing Point.  Access to Inch Church via Barnaviddane.

From 08.30hrs to 18.00hrs (Daily Closure) from Monday 25th July 2022 to Friday 29th July 2022.

Reason for Proposed Closure

To facilitate Road Resurfacing.

Alternative Routes

Traffic travelling south:  At Crookstown take the R-585 south to Beal na Blath.  Take the L-2011 south to Mossgrove Cross Roads.  Take the L-2009 east to meet the R-590 at Carrigeen.

The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

Local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the Road Closure.

This closure will take place in sequence with TRC-113-2022 – “R-585 Beal na Blath to Crookstown” but both roads will not be closed at the same time.

To facilitate Road strengthening and resurfacing.

Alternative Routes

Traffic traveling from Newmarket to Rockchapel divert left at Coolagh bridge onto the R578 towards Ballydesmond.  Continue on R578 until Glash Bridge and turn right onto L-1012 signposted Abbeyfeale.  Continue on the L-1012/L-1003 Tado’s Cross and turn right onto the R576 for Rockchapel and left onto the R576 for traffic travelling onto Kerry/Limerick.  

The stated diversion route is applicable in reverse when travelling in the opposite direction.

Local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the Road Closure. 

The works are weather dependent and will be carried out over a number of days during the Temporary Road Closure period and at other times the road will remain open.

Alternative Routes

Traffic in Boherbue village should divert right in the square onto the L-1108 signposted Knocknagree. Continue on the L-1108 to Loumanagh Cross and turn left onto the L-1111 signposted Millstreet. Continue on the L-1111 to Church Hill Cross and turn left onto the N72 signposted Mallow. Continue on the N72 to Clonbannin Cross and continue on the N72 for Mallow or turn left onto the R577 to Gorman’s Cross.
