Supports Remain for those in need throughout the county over Christmas

While the excitement of Christmas builds, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, would like to relay a very clear message to the people of Cork County, that support is always available.

“I am acutely aware that while many are looking forward to celebrating Christmas after what has been a very challenging year, this can also be a time that is especially difficult for some.  If you need help, please know that its available.”

Cork County Council’s Covid 19 Community Support Programme has compiled a flyer detailing support organisations, which will be included in a number of local papers throughout the county this week, with copies also available through the Council’s Branch libraries and Area Offices.

Mayor Linehan Foley highlighted how the leaflet provides contact details for a number of organisations offering mental health supports,

“Whether you’re younger or older, living on your own or in a family home, we have all at one time or another needed some help.  For support, for reliable information and for someone to talk to, please pick up the phone and speak with someone who is there to listen and to help you.”

In effect since March, the Council’s Covid 19 Community Support Programme was established to enable the coordination of a multi-agency response in the delivery of much needed services to vulnerable citizens across Cork County.  The programme represents a multi-agency approach comprising senior representatives of both Statutory and Voluntary agencies operating across Cork County, and its important work ensures commitment and consistency in terms of delivery of the programme.

Mayor Linehan Foley went on to say,

“If the Covid 19 pandemic has proven anything, it has shown how we support each other and our communities when we need to.  There is always someone there to help if you ever need it.  Please remember this and pick up that phone during a tough time. There will always be someone there to listen. Time moves on and things change, for the better.”
