New All Terrain Beach Wheelchair Arrives in Youghal

A new all-terrain wheelchair to help people living with a disability enjoy the blue-flag Redbarn Beach in Youghal has been put into service. The wheelchair is the first one of its kind in East Cork and is the result of a partnership between Cork County Council, the Disability Federation of Ireland, Cork Sports Partnership, The Irish Wheelchair Association and the Quality Hotel & Leisure Centre Redbarn.

Cork’s One County, One Book for Teens and Young Adults

Cork County Council Library and Arts Service has announced the inaugural ‘One County, One Book 2021’ read for teens and young Adults. The chosen book is All Our Hidden Gifts by Cork born author, Caroline O’Donoghue. The Council’s ‘One County, One Book’ initiative is designed to promote homegrown literature, with prominent placement in its branches, and to promote literacy as part of its community outreach programmes to young people.

Youghal Medieval Festival Returns Virtually

Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. Gillian Coughlan welcomes news of the return of Youghal Medieval Festival in a new online format. The festival, which won Chambers Ireland Festival of the year in 2018 drawing over 8,000 visitors, will run in an online format this year from August 14th to the 22nd and will include music, songs and stories.

Cork County Council will reopen its offices on Monday, August 9th where members of the public will be able to visit the majority of public counters without an appointment. The Motor Tax Office will operate on an appointment-only basis. A vast range of services, over 120, are available online at www.YourCouncil.ie and Cork County Council continues to ask people to avail of this option in the first instance.

Cork County goes Pop with a Summer of Outdoor Performances on offer

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Gillian Coughlan has officially launched ‘Cork Co Co Pops’, a series of more than 120 live outdoor performances taking place across the county throughout August and September. With a variety of offerings, from theatre to trad, spoken word to rock, classical and opera, ‘Cork Co Co Pops’ really has something for everyone.

Fire, Road and Water Safety highlighted in ‘Amber Thursday’

Cork County Council is appealing to everyone to stay safe over the August Bank Holiday weekend as it marks the first-ever ‘Amber Thursday’. The colour amber was chosen as it signifies a hazard or a warning. Amber Thursday is a collaboration between safety bodies, fire services and local authorities to help promote fire, road and water safety over the busy bank holiday weekend.

Spotlight on Spike Island with future plans highlighted during Ministerial Visit

Spike Island Cork recently played host to Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan TD who visited the historic island which has been making waves in Ireland’s heritage and tourism circles.  Minister Noonan thanked Cork County Council for the fascinating visit to Cork’s own Alcatraz - noting in particular the three-storey barracks, which retains much of its original form, together with the remains of some important features and materials.

Kinsale Town set to welcome new multi-million euro library

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Gillian Coughlan, and Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, jointly marked the official commencement of works on Kinsale’s new state of the art library facility. The event, which took place in Kinsale on Sunday 25th July, marks the commencement of extensive refurbishment works which will see the town centre heritage building being re-purposed as a new library.

Cork County Council has today formally signed up to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan (AIPP). Getting on board with this ambitious five-year roadmap to help bees and nature is further evidence of the Council’s commitment to playing a leading role in making its land more pollinator friendly.
